One of my good friends just sent me this pic of a pig of a king he got this afternoon 7/12. He took it on a white echip flasher/white fly. He says it was 36lbs on the marina scale, take it for what its worth, I didn't see it in person. He said it took the line counter to 863ft. Pretty cool!!

Wow, I would say it has 10 lbs. on the biggest salmon I ever landed. Definite trophy, nice going.
It would be interesting to know where it was caught, by the looks of it, it was caught near shore some where.
Wild guess, was it near Tobermorey Canada?
And can I go fishing with him? ;) Just kidding.

According to his gallery it is from Lake Michigan
Nice pig, I just wish I could break the 20 pound mark.

Even if it isn't 36lbs, it's well over 20. Very nice fish.

I bet it was taken in Northern part of Lake MI. Guys have been getting 30's since spring. I believe it. Sounds about right to me. That fish would have been 40 come fall.

Awesome fish.

That don't look like any Michigan port I've been to...

I'll bet Lake O.

Here is a 33.54 lbs king caught in the Great Ontario Salmon Derby out of Lake Ontario simply for camparison:

Weather it is 36 lbs or not- still a great fish;)

Let’s say his middle finger is 4” long.

By the looks of the pic I would say that fish is 12” from the belly to the back.

If we add 4” for thickness…

We could hypothetically say the following…

12” + 12” + 4” = 28” ~Girth
39” = ~Length

((28 * 28) * 39) / 800 = an estimated 38.2 pounds

Certainly not exact, but a good estimate?

Wow, I must be fishing the wrong ports because I haven't heard of any of the ports here in Michigan with fish over 30 or even close. I hope, however, that there are 30 pounders out there! The biggest I have heard about is a little over 25 so I guess 30 isn't too far fetched, but as Gomer has highlighted, these fish are rare!!!

Look at the results of the South Haven, Holland, Grand Haven, Ludington tournaments. Granted these are southern ports and earlier in the year, but you're looking at 100's of boats with 1000's of fish weighed in and other than Ludington I don't think 20# has been broken.

Holland big fish was a brown.

We had a 13.8# the weekend of South Haven, that would have been like the 4th biggest fish in the 333.

Here's the standings from the Frankfort Tackle Box

1st: Mike Carroll, 21 lb 14 oz, 6/19/06

2nd: Chris Hettinger, 20 lb 4 oz, 6/14/06

3rd: Keith Odzinan, 18 lb 3 oz, 6/27/06

Nothing close to 30 there.

FBD,

I think you mean Manistee, not Ludington. There hasn't been a pro/am there yet this summer (weekend after this weekend). But yes, that was the only pro/am this summer to have a salmon over 20lbs weighed and there were only a handful and none over 22lbs.

Brian,

How up to date is that? I would HAVE to believe that there has been some bigger fish caught in the past 2.5 weeks...

"37 pounder taken on Lake O just this past week."

And to think....when I used to fish the Rogers City Salmon tournament back in the mid-late 90's, their leader board used to look just like the one on the link.

If you didn't have a fish over 27#, you could keep fishing.....

I saw a legit 33 and 37 weighed at the fish cleaning station two nights before the tourney in 1998. You want to talk about pigs....wow....

Great news is that if you look back at fishing reports and posts from the last two years on LM....nothing comes close to the pics that have been posted here from 2006....

And I like that...

Thanks for the correction Gomer.

Ludington would be coming up shortly.

Maybe we'll see 25# at that one?

Nice fish, and no offense, but no way that goes 30. I'd guess 22-23.

FWIW I heard a fish weighing 30 and some change was weighed at Solberg's in Manistee this week.

Im thinking larger than that with all the feed this year. Wasn't last years big fish 26lbs?

pikedevil
07-13-2006, 07:15 PM
yeah big fish was a random 26-27 pounder but then they dropped down to like 18-22 pounders for the rest of the big fish spots.

I am 6' 2" about 250 there, 12 years ago. This September river fish WEIGHED 26 lbs for what its worth. Any ways I thought the other one looked bigger. Hard to tell I guess.

Man, this site is getting ridiculous, now all of a sudden, everybody's lieing about their fish. Why don't you doubters all go back to TSS where you belong, and stay off this site, as this is a site for FISHERMAN, not whiny babies who are skeptic about everyone else's catches.

What is with Us Fisherman that makes us question everything we see from how someone is doing something to how big their fish is/was.....I think that the Salmon involved in the topic is definitely a 30 pound fish which is an awesome fish.....and the 26 pounder, I feel that is all of that!

The bickering is exactly why I left TSS so let's get along!!

Yep. that ripe hen would weigh about that without the 6 to 8 lbs of eggs she hasn't dropped. Nice fish out of a river and back when he caught it 20 to 30 lbers were the norm. We used to laugh and make jokes about anything smaller. Some of you guys are in for a real ass whooping if fish like that ever hit our rivers again.
