It is NOT easy to wait that's for sure! I still have trouble now and then but here's something I learned from the guy that turned me on to Scum Frogs. What I usually try to do is cast the frog out and let it sit. I just do a slow twitching retrieve. Twitch and let it sit and repeat. When you do get a strike, extend your arms and point the rod tip at the point where the strike occurred. This will put some slack in the line and allow the fish to take it. As I'm "pointing" the rod I'll take a couple of turns on the crank just before I put the hurt on 'em. This will take up some of the slack you gave it and shorten the line and allow you to get a good hook set. It's VERY difficult to do because of the excitement of the strike but after a while it becomes second nature.
Good luck out there!

Great tip!!! I have always had trouble waiting a full two seconds and as a result, I often get a scum frog sailing right back at me. Hope this approach increases my hook up percentage!

well ALL i fished last night was my scum frog set of 5, three topwaters and two poppers, had a few bites but the fish wouldnt hit it hard just kinda peck and nibble, although i did get one bass to take it all the way, finally i get a chance to set the hook i count 1....2... HOOK UP all is well till the fish decided to bed down into the weeds and he shook my hook, i really like these baits though you can vary the action and yes they go through anything, i'll will for sure be carrying these to fletchers when i go in september.:fish: :fish: :fish:

I like to throw them whenever the fish are in thick thick cover. The thicker the better. Lillypads are also a great time to throw them. Twitch them through the cover and pause them in any open spot. Alot of times bass will hit as soon as the frog hits the water just as a reaction strike. Bring out your heavy tackle and braided line cause they dive straight for heavy cover once they hit.
I just bought a few Bronzeye frogs from SPRO. they were designed by Rojas and he started with a hook and made the frog around it. You get a lot better hookups.
Another tip if your using braid...Put a little candlstick wax or bowstring wax a few feet up the line. Braid tends to sink which disturbs the action of the topwater. Good luck.
I just bought one the other day, a white one with red/white streamers. Is there a color preference due to overcast vs Sunny, etc? I know the first rule of tackle is you can NEVER have enough, but I don't want to have stuff sitting in my box that never get taken.

I usually dont mess around with colors too much. I usually use white so that I can see the frog. I dont believe a bass can distinguish colors that well on topwaters and they just strike at the shape. But the fun part is doing your own trial and error, find the color you have confidence in. Confidence makes you a better fisherman.

I've got lots of different colors of Scum Frogs. But the one I use about 80% of the time is white/chartreuse. It works for me.

I usually leave them in the box till late June. Once the pads are in full bloom and the emergent weeds start matting, any time of the day works. Caught my biggest LMB (About 5.5#) in the early afternoon on a hot sunny day in 3 ftw.

I have several greens, a white, and a black. Seem to catch more fish on the darker colors.
