Storm-damaged trees

I was wondering whats the best dressing to use to prevent fungi and bacteria on a wild cherry tree that has almost half the trunk gone(half the tree busted off)?The tree is approx. 50' tall and forked into two trees 3' from the ground.One-half busted off at the trunk.I'm hoping to save the other half that is still standing.Thanks....

Provided the remaining half is healthy I wouldn't put anything on it, just let it heal over on it's own. That will take years to accomplish. You could also try calling the nearest MSU Agg extension service. They are a wealth of info for that kind of thing. I call the one in Oakland Co often and get pretty good answers.
