Went out 6:30 PM sat, did not do well on putting fish in cooler. Am new to the river fishing out of a boat, do a lot of fishing from shore. Was there last sat morning and did ok after we lost about ten harnesses and landed 20 gobies. Seen a boat that was trolling and getting fish, stopped and ask what he was doing, after talking to him I understood what we were doing wrong. We were drifting with 11/2 oz to 2 oz bells, had a south wind 10 to 20 mph the current was going north 1.2 mph. The harnesses did not work wright. It was told to use the trolling motor, go down river, put my rig in the water and see how it was working. At 2.8 to 3.2 mph I wanted to eat it! He then said to set up two forward lines and two back lines the forward lines put more wt on then the back ones. (Front 4.5 to 5, Back 3 oz) ,that got a good tic on bottom. BANG FISH ON! By this time it was 10:30 am, got one good pass in( 5 ON 3 IN), before the wind picked up to 35 gust and the fish shut down . THANK YOU TO THAT FISHING MAN! Its the concept of making the harness work, no matter what it takes.

Sounds like your on the right track now.
Welcome to the sight, sounds like your getting the hang of river fishing.
I always seem to stuggle. Easier for me to set up planner boards in Erie
and get fish there, but its more of a drive. I need to get a smaller boat
so I CAN control it in the river. That or get a lesson from one of the
guys on this site. Its a pretty good one for getting an idea of what
to do, before you get out there.

OK had to go for a min, wanted to get posted. But here's the rest of the story. Got there 6:00 PM this SAT, had a different boat (19 ft 4 wynns ) not set up for fishing. No boat control for trolling, no T-plate or T-motor. Tried using big motor with 2 buckets, to fast (3.7 to 4.3) had that south wind. Started V-jigging with 3/4 oz with the new minnow bait W-MIKE put on post, used CROC spoons, twister tails, GULP. No fish, the jigs were slightly down river a bit, I wonder if that was the problem? Waited till evening, set up 2 liens with 3 way, drop 2.5 ft, with 2 oz bell, Leader 5 ft with #13 org float RA, another 5 ft with snaps on ends with # 10 RA on that. Set anchor in 20 to 22 ft of water ( had GPS CORD for a good spot) lot of boats in area. NO FISH! switched baits and wiped out about 150 ft and back. HELP! went home at 12:30. still had good time.:bloos:

I was in a line of boats, just north of marriesville boat launch. The closest D-river 400 ft, U-river about the same. Should I use 1.5 oz or lighter ?
