Saginaw Bay Walleyes!

To any of you members that happen to live in the tri-city area, the walleye fishing on the bay is hot. The ice is a little iffy in spots so be careful. Picked up a nice 27 1/2 incher this morning before work. Bay City State Park in the 6 to 8 ft depths is the ticket. Just thought I would let you guys know. With the warmer weather predicted it won't be happening much longer. Good luck and be safe.

p.s. I've been running my quad down the shoreline north about a mile and then walking out about a 1/4 mile.

about 6 inches, and not too many guys, I've saw a lot more in the past

Was there many fish caught while you were out?
If you are only going out a 1/4 mile I will leave the quad at home and give it a try in the morning. My wife has been bugging me for fresh walleye.

kingfisher, on Sunday I saw 2 guys with 7 on the ice and a couple of buddies had 6. I didn't get to that area to 9 when the bite was about over. I managed a 18 incher around 10. Today I only fished an hour and was by myself pretty much and talked with no one. Only fished a little while as i had to be at work. Good luck if you go, get there early, and let me know how you do. I'm hoping to maybe get out 1 more time, but it's going to be tight as I am leaving for Simcoe Thur and have many things to get ready.

Did you have to move around to locate the fish?

I just sat at the same hole as my buddy did yesterday. Didn't move around too much. I have more luck doing that when I'm perch fishing. Kingfisher, check your PM box.

The Saginaw river mouth is open. I'm not sure about the Kawkawlin.

The kawkawlin is solid ice, at least at State Park Drive. There was somebody who was riding a 4 wheeler up and down the river yesterday; I don't think I'd trust it that far though.

I'm not too clear as to where you've been fishing. You say you drive 1 mile north, then 1/4 mile out? Wouldn't this be off the mouth of the kawkawlin? (I'm not too familiar with the topography of the shoreline in that area as it's 95% private.)

yes ruler, I went the opposite way from the Kawkawlin, my buddy was out last night and got skunked:confused: . He said there were a lot more guys, and he saw a couple landed.
