Darn it, I just committed to help referee the hydro races on the river that weekend. I didn’t realize it was the same weekend. I even bought some new baits for the event! :( :banghead3

Rod has arranged to have two "pigs" roasted on Sunday, plus corn on the cob, chicken K-bobs, etc. for the dinner on Sunday, plus live entertainment Sunday afternoon. So if you decide to fish, make sure you invite you family for the weigh-in and the following dinner.:fish: :fish:

We crewed up at around 4:30 P.M. this evening. Ran baits from the Huron Pointe Light to the Dumps, 1 for 3 with a decent 45" just N. of the SCL, 3 & 40 on a Grey and Black Coach Dog, Lochness. Dead calm, but a nice night to fish, pulled the rods as the sun set.;)

The fish that we boated had 3/lamp rays/suckers or whatever on it's tail and numerous scars, she lived to fight another day.:fish:

For those that fish this event, good luck, stay safe and hang a big one.:yikes:

Anybody have results? I worked the hydroplane races so I couldn’t fish. Talked to Hot Rod Saturday evening and the top 3 fish were all in the 52+ inch range.

I know that the boat named Contender measured 2 fish (1 Saturday and 1 Sunday) at 52 3/4 for first and second place!!! They had it going on. Captians name was "Scott".

Wow, two fish at 52 ¾! That’s some good shooting! A few years ago, I took two 51 inchers back to back. Due to other fish already entered, they never got measured. Last year, right after the tourney, we took a 53 ½. Hopefully, one of these days everything will come together. :p

John, I was also volunteering at the hydro races. I was at the judges stand (start finish line) on Fri and Sat, where were you at? Al

I was helping the referees. Turn judge, Grand Prix turn 1 exit. I used to race a 2.5 litre modified hydro. Boat name was "In Cahoots". I've been helping out at the races since 88. :)

I was wondering if that strong S/W wind messed with the races. They were calling for s/s/w winds but it looked more southernly.

59 Boats entered:

1st Place Contender 52 3/4 Saturday morning around 11:30 A.M.
2nd Contender 52 3/4 Sunday morning around 9:30 A.M.
3rd Got Fish 52 1/4 Saturday, around 1:30 P.M.

I believe their were two or 3 more fish over 52" and several fish above the 51 " minimum.:yikes:

Producer 52 1/4
Muskie Mania 52 1/8
High Risk at 51 1/2

Several fish above 51 " which were released.

Contender managed to release the first 52 3/4 fish on Saturday, Congratulation's to the crew of Contender, a class act to release that first fish, which swam out of Belle River Harbor, to fight again.

Our crew sucked, 3 for 3 on Saturday, nothing above 45", skunked on Sunday but we had a great time, ate well and consumed a lot of liquid libation, mostly water. It was hot-hot-hot.:smile-mad

No Ed, all races went off as scheduled on Sunday. Fridays last 2 events were cancelled because of the storms that moved through the area and were completed on Saturday. Can someone please pass the budweiser and the sunscreen:dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy:  ?????? Al

John it's Hotshot. :D

We had it going pretty good; 7 for 9 on Saturday with the big fish on Saturday around 11AM. The fish was released out in the middle of the lake, Scott had to swim with her for close to 40 minutes. But she went back strong.

Sunday we took the second place fish which was 34Lbs 14Oz, the first fish was a pound lighter. We where 1 for 3 on Sunday and was fighting weed bags from hell. :yikes: We had a major cluster going on, we where just putting the lines back out. With the only line in when she hit as it was going out to the board. We tried our best to release her but she just didn't make it.

This was the thirty year anniversary of Tom's first Gold Cup, Tom & Judy joined us for the celebration at the club. I must say Tom was pretty proud; last time I saw him like this was when I won my first nationals. We fished Scott's boat with me, Mick VanNuck & Jim Budzeak as the crew. :D

Sounds like you were on the right boat. Congratulations to you and your crew. I believe you guys accomplished a 1st for this tournament, a legitimate 1st and 2nd place. :yikes:

I had to leave before the celebration, I think the heat got to me. along with a lack of sleep for a couple of days.

Anyway, nice piece of work, especially the part about reviving the first fish and letting her go, class act!:p

You da man Doug! First you start off kicking my butt in the hydro’s and now the fish. :) You sure know how to get the competitive part of me riled up! :p We sure had some good times together out there on the race course and thanks again for not running me over when I flipped at Sylvan! Great job on those fish and I'm glad Tom and Judy could join in on the celebration. Scott is sure one heck of a fisherman as well! Again, awesome job and congratulations to you and your crew!

Hey Cahoots! (and everyone else who has called, beeped, buzzed and left voice mails)

Thanks!!!

It was an awesome weekend, and a Great Tourny. (A huge THANKS!!! to the HPYC, Capt. Hot Rod, the weighmasters and rest of the HPYC volunteers) A TOP NOTCH event!!!

Also, a huge thanks to my crew for all the help. A true team effort!

Just a note. We boated 8 muskies this weekend. 6 of 8 over 48 inches (3 over 50", 5 over 30 pounds - legitimate). 7 of 8 fish were RELEASED very healthy!!! The one that was kept, is going on the wall, and that is the way it is.

(About swimming for 40 min....she was very strong, and swimed all over the surface...I stayed with her until she bolted to the depths so no one else would scoop her up!!!)
