Dear Sportsman, I need help. My Uncle got a rather nice boat a month ago and is set up perfect for general fishing. (Meaning I wouldn't take it in the big water.) It is a Sylavan 16ft aluminum, 50 hp outboard with an electric trolling motor on the bow. We have been out on the SCR a few times this past month and done chugging and whipping with decent success. Tonight was a windy one and we were drifting so fast we were moving back up for another pass faster than we could get a line in the water.
I need some advice on boat control during various times of day/conditions.
1.) Today was windy with a fast current. We tried drifting harnesses to no avail. We kept pointing the boat sideways but noticed others bringing in fish, and we had not a bite.
2.) We tried to jig as the wind slowed, but we were moving way to fast. The electric trolling motor could not keep up to slow us down.
3.) When it is windy, should we even bother jigging, or should we try drifting harnesses?
I know these are a lot of questions but I think this is one final piece to the puzzle we are missing. We both just moved here a few years ago and any advice would really help us in our future fishing success in Algoac.
