Visit Fort Wilkins Historic State Park by Candlelight

Department of Natural Resources officials today invited visitors to enjoy a restored military fort during a special evening program on Saturday, July 15, at Fort Wilkins Historic State Park.

The program opens at 7:30 p.m. with “What They Carried: Soldier’s Clothing, Equipment and Weapons at Fort Wilkins” by Barry James. Costumed interpreters will be stationed throughout the restored 1844 military fort and working by candlelight. Light refreshments will follow on the parade grounds near the flag pole. Seating is very limited; visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.

Fort Wilkins Historic State Park, located near Copper Harbor on the Upper Peninsula’s Keweenaw Peninsula, is a restored 1844 U.S. Army post.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the entrance. Cost is $24 for resident annual and $6 for resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources for current and future generations.
