View Full Version : 100 days - the countdown has begun!
Today, Friday, June 23, marks the 100th day before bow season. The countdown has officially begun and excitement is building. Like a lot of you I have my annual rituals. With the 100 day mark I start charting my arrows. It's kind of like a playoff to determine the very best arrow. Each arrow will be charted to determine the top performers-believe me, not all arrows are created equal. (The chart I use is in my gallery.) These are the ones that make it into the quiver. It's probably silly, but it sure helps my confidence level knowing the arrow will hit where I aim. What rituals do you have?
Good luck, John-Ypsi

I'll have to adjust the draw weights on my 13 year old daughter's, and 16 year old son's bows and re-tune them both. My daughter could use a new rest, and my son may need stiffer spined arrows. My oldest didn't shoot much the last few years as he was pretty busy in college. Hopefully, his bow will be good to do. I haven't had my bow out of the case since last November.
Thanks for the reminder!

Funny you mention this. Just list night I told my wife it's time to do some serious practice and equipment checks.
I started out checking the bow/quiver/arrows over really well. Looking for anything loose and/or cracked ect.
Then went out and done about 8-9 rounds of shooting. I could tell it's been a while as the muscles were stiff !
I'll be shooting several times a week now. :)

Thanks for the reminder, I need to get out and start practicing. Now's the time to prepare so that you can meet opprotunity when it knocks in the fall...

I must be getting old. When I was younger it seemed like forever between seasons. Now it seem like it just ended and then BAM its time again. I've been shooting the bow off and on all year. I can't wait.
Deepwoods - I know exactly what you mean. It used to take forever and ever for deer season to roll around. Now it almost seems that there just isn't enough time between the end of late bow season and Oct 1st. But I'm not complainin' - the sooner the better! John-Ypsi

Deepwoods and JME, it must be because i'm young, but it seems like years since bow season. I shot a winter league and now I'm three weeks into our summer league and just shot the Field and Stream 3-d last weekend. I can't wait.

Great Post, I just mentioned this to my wife and her reaction was..."That's Nice". Some people just don't understand. What she doesn't know it that I hold her and the kids on one side of my heart and the other is for Bowhunting Baby!! Can't wait guys. Good luck this year.

but I started bowfishing this year and that got my hands on the bow. I ended up buying a recurve bow and setting it up exclusively for bowfishing and small game hunting. My compound is set up for deer hunting. I found out that it's harder to shoot carp in the water than deer in the woods!
I'm still in tune from turkey season. Been shooting about once a week most of the year. I feel in shape and ready to hunt. If the season was to open tomorrow I'd be ready.
As for rituals? I pratice mine year round. They include eating the venison from last season and giving thanks to God for all that I have. Not the least of which is life itself :)

Suppose it's about time to get another hunting bow here pretty quick.
I've been shooting my target toys but sold my hunting bow months ago and never bought a replacement.
kept thinking ..."Oh I'll have plenty of time". I do now but I won't if I wait much longer.:yikes:

It is getting to be that time!!!!! I did a little scouting this weekend and picked out a couple of new locations to hang some stands. I also stopped in to visited some folks that have given me permission to hunt their property. Everything is starting to take shape.:)

My ritual? It's one I go through every year, and, coincidentally, it took place just a couple of nights ago. I get up, walk downstairs to the freezer, and dejectedly realize that the last of my venison is gone. Without fail, I start pulling together my gear for back-yard practice sessions, and begin plotting...

.... wanting to go place some more stands .... trim some lanes .... new sight .... how many days again? Just picked up some broadheads today ... oh God, I'm running out of time!:yikes:
You know, I like this "getting ready" time almost as much as the hunt! If that's not enough, I've got a 12 yr old (the one in the front of the canoe) that I'm hoping will get his first deer this year.:) God bless America!

Eh nothing to out of the norm,-scout, shoot, and wait in anticipation like a 8 yr old waits for christmas  oh and I buy something new... I like that part the best, this years purchases, Scent Blocker Dream season, and a new Trophy ridge sight and Stabilizer. Wait that does sound like christmas :)

My ritual is to wax my arrows. I spray them with scentless pledge so they glide more smoothly.
