View Full Version : Bass Eyes: True Technique, or Worthless Wive's Tale?

When we catch bass, we check the direction their eyes are pointing.
We have been told that a bass's eyes remain in the position they were in for a while when you haul them from the water. So if the eyes are up, it means that the bass were looking up for food, and if they are aiming down, then they were feeding toward to the bottom.
So, we adjust what lure and how we are presenting - according to the eyes of the first or most recent bass we catch. I think we do okay, but I could not tell you if it anything to do with our paying attention to this or not.
Is bass-eye direction nonsense? ;)
I searched online, and could not find anything to support it or refute it. Have you heard this. Do you buy it?

LMAO!:)
That's a new one on me, but I'd be throwing what ever
caught the last one for sure for awhile.
The only hint I ever get is when they spit there last meal out
when your unhooking them or you see them actively feeding
on the surface.
Right now where I fish it seems fry is on the main menu.

B00L-D00KY!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's a whacked idea....
:cwm27:
If I catch them on a jig and pig bounced across the bottom, I assume that are feeding on the bottom. If I catch them on a bulged spinnerbait, I assume they are looking up. If I don't catch any, I assume it's just another in an endless series of my normal days.

Thanks guys.
When I played baseball as a kid, I switched my hat backward when we got a rally started too. ;)
Like an atheist praying in a foxhole, I guess. Just covering the bases :)
Seriously though, you can generally tell if they are feeding on minnows or craws just by their teeth when you lip them. If the teeth are sharp and well defined, they are feeding mainly on minnows. If they are a bit blunted they are feeding mainly on craws and other bottom dwellers.

That's a new one to me. Never heard of it before and I highly doubt it.

Kevin,
All I know is I have seen stranger things that work catching fish. I'll keep an open mind while you do the research.

I fish mostly here in Florida now and with the gunk ya gotta cast into and the roap ya use for line. They tend to have that buggs bunny , eyeball staying behind, kinda look they come outa the water so fast.
