Hit the bay this morning at about 10:30 after launching at Patterson Rd. (got the last parking spot in the lot). Started out by E bouy and trolled towards the spark plug. By the sounds of the radio chatter we should have been out earlier as many boats were heading in with limits already. Started out pulling harnesses on the boards and a couple of spoon harnesses down deep next to the boat. Started banging fish right away, but only boxed 3 of the first 12 fish caught. Then the meat bite died for us. Switched the rods over to tots, and banged about six keepers in a row. During that flurry a deep purple tot was the hot color, running anywhere from 45 to 85 feet back. Then the bite died on us again. Kept switching up colors and it seemed like every time we switched a rod it would catch one or two fish then go dead. So we kept switching up and finally managed a 3 man limit.
Conditions were pretty good out there today. A little chop on the water, waves weren't much more then a foot except when one of the many speed boats came roaring by. Why is it that when there are hundreds of square miles of water that every boat has to run within a 150 to 200 feet of you on full plain. Had two different boats today run right between me and another boat full throtle. Just gets under the skin sometimes.

Good job, JoeR. Sometimes you need to play the color game and pull some switch ups to find what they want, or, what they don't want ! Three man limit is great. Happen to find any "bigger" fish, anything over say 21"-23" ? Still trying to figure out their pattern right now is being a little tough. You must be one lucky dude to find some calmer water, heard it was a little rough out there from a few people. South wind will kick the Bay up too but nothing compared to that freakin' north wind we've had lately. Will be going out Sunday with the wife to continue my 'eye "study".

Whale,

We did a lot of switching during the day. I'm thinking we should of headed deeper. Most of the fish in the afternoon came from 20-22 fow. I am noticing that the schools are becoming more concentrated now, at least in the area I've been fishing. I think the bigger fish are moving around quite a bit. Haven't found them in one consistent spot all year. Last wednesday they were between C bouy and the island. Last weekend they were around B buoy. If you want to catch bigger fish on a consistent basis you should try Augres, but like my buddy tells me about fishing up there "You are either a hero, or a zero" when fishing there. If you get on them they generally run larger in size then the southern inner bay.
Anybody notice a trend towards darker colors on the bay this year. Most of my fish have come on harnesses or spoons with a dark colors and copper or gold backs. Have only caught a few on silver backed spoons or blades.
