I am very interested in trolling for Browns this year. I have never done it. I have questions on where, what lures, how far behind boards and speed to troll. Thanks so much. I have heard that Tawas is another good spot?? Oh forgot how deep of water?? I really appreciate it.

King charters had a good instructional website for browns last year. Sorry dont have the address. As for me, I focus on smelt location. Any river or stream is a good spot. I run rapalas 100' behind my boards. I try to stay somewhere around 10-15 fow and follow the shore dropoffs. In the real cold water I run at about 2-2.5mph. I'm no master but thats how I do it. There is tons more on water temp, clarity, speed, length of line, snap weights, etc. on the above mentioned site.

I agree with Yellowfin. We do it the same way. drag raps about 100 feet or so behind boards but we also will attach a weight on the line about 4 or 5 feet up from the lure to get a little extra depth. We have had good luck using the jointed raps, J9's up to J11's. And in murkey water we use the orange raps.

I surf fish for them in Oscoda and I use a gold little cleo on 1 pole and spawn on the other. I do very well starting in April. Also I agree with look for where the smelt are. Where the smelt hang out the browns are in there after them. I surf fish by day and smelt dip by night.

Could someone tell me where King Charters is out of I still can't find their web site. I have probably been fishing close to the same place you have riverratt. I have been going straight out from where you park next to Jerrys and out as far as you can go on good ice that is. Bet you have been by the shanties??

Skeeter,
John king is the name. He fishes manistee. Dont have the site but do a search for michigan charter boats. This brings up the Mich charter boat association site. Choose Manistee and king charters will be in there. Hell of a website.

Skeeter, you might get a better response if you post something in Cold Water

Skeeter,
King charters site is michigansportsman.com. Its like a mini magazine with tons of info on all greatlakes trolling. Do not use a dash between michigan and sportsman. If you do, you will get the site that we are on now.
