Does anyone use their downriggers for walleye fishing? I thought about giving it a try out on the bay. Obviously the releases would have to be set really lightly. Any other tips?

Use a 8" to 12" steel leader on your release (From the ball to the release) and don't load the rod all the way. That way if you get a shaker that doesn't release you can see the rod tip bouncing.

I have used riggers and they work, like what he said, detecting bites is tough. I have dragged lots of mid size fish that you wouldn't have ever known were there. Like a dog on a leash. Mini divers and inline planers, at least ya get to see some clues of a strike.
