Say good bye to the bay ice... hard west winds for two days.. Im taking a guess that most everywhere lost its ice.. except maybe a few back corners like pine river maybe. I can see open water for a long ways in front of my place.. only a couple of ice bergs here and there. If only the mouth of the river had no ice now..... trolling for browns anyone?

I spent a good chunk of money at Christmas time for ice fishing gear. It's been tough to find good ice to get out. Saginaw Bay has been a big target I've been waiting for. Any chance we can get out there this year. If it gets, and stays cold, we should be able to get out in a few weeks? Do you think?

Welcome to the site RJF. Sorry to dash your hopes (I spent way too much on ice fishing stuff this winter too), but it doesn't look like we're going to get any descent ice fishing this year. There's shore ice for perch, but that's about it. Traditionally, the ice starts getting shaky pretty soon when we *have* ice. If we got a week of single digit weather with little wind, we *MIGHT* be able to fish out from shore a bit. However, the weatherman hasn't been co-operating this year; supposed to be above normal temps and windy from what I've heard. I think the best thing now is to hope for it to get really warm to heat the water up and get the fish in before the season closes.

I remember 2 years ago, I was fishing March 12 on the Kawkawlin River in a t-shirt. March 14, I fished the Saginaw and froze my unmentionables off with winter clothes on. It had just gotten cold after several days of 70 degree plus weather and the 'eyes were *!IN!*. I was watching them come up and eat minnows off the surface; if I would've had a shotgun, I could've shot my limit! (BC police probably woulda gotten upset at that though...) :D

Gotta agree with the others. Cant see anything happening in the next 3 or 4 weeks when it hasnt in the last 3-4 months.

The only way to look at the investments in gear is that we wont have to spend as much next year.....well thats what I tell myself anyhow?? After every concievable hunting, and fishing season...I guess I always need more gear....

Anyhow lets hope for the best. Head north still safe ice on many inland waters.
