After a very, very long absence from fishing, I through fate to the wind and hit the South Pier at 4:30 A yesturday! By daybreak there was over 50 guys out there as well as 30+ boats. The "Ales" were almost none exitant but enough for bait. Brought home 2 skams, 12&10 lbs. and saw better than 2 dz. others netted and about the same amount lost. I lost two myself. The best bait of the day was shrimp but if ya could find a large Ale, you had a good chance of getting a larger fish. Orange B/J"s took several fish also! The fish are starting to showup and the bite is on and those little rascals are a blast in this cold water. See ya on the pier!!!!!!!

Great job Martin! Those were some nice fish for sure!
I walked the north pier today at lunch...only 1 skam on a stringer and no alewives had been seen. Boats looked scattered out to 50 fow, but a few held on to the pierheads for a laging skam. A couple guys were on the south pier...no one standing up like they were on fish. It is a little early yet, but keep an eye out. :one_eye: It shouldn't be long....

Ben, are you telling me that you walked out on the pier W/O a rod in your hand???? Today was alot slower than Tuesday over all. With only about 15 fish on the south and about 10 on the north. It didn't take the boat to long to scatter the deeper water. Even the Gulls were gone. But, I did manage to trick an 11 & 13 lber into eating shrimp. Even manage to give Darrin a good chuckle when I went running for my rod. Thank God for baitrunners and circle hooks. Guess I better git my butt in gear and drag the boat out of the barn.

Ut oh! DON'T LET THIS GET AROUND!!!!
I forgot to put my setup in my truck after the Lake Erie outing. Plus with our house addition in full swing, I got my hands full.... EXCUSES, EXCUSES, I know. It's fixed now though, got the rod/reel in the truck. Now I just gotta get my cooler back from STEVE AREND to put the shrimp in while I'm in work. I may just have to pack an orange caster or something in case the shrimp aren't working. We'll keep an eye out next week that's for sure!
How did Darrin do? He said he was going monday morning...I slept in after a long day sunday on lake erie.

Darrin, Nick and Nick's Dad had a couple of nice grillers. They also had the boat in the parking lot. After lunch and a trip to Steven's to retrieve some of Darrins stuff, they were planning to head out to deep water.

Ben I did the same as you Monday...as bad as I wanted to I could not get out of bed @ 3:30 Mon AM after Erie. Yesterday was the first day I could make it out between work and family...I knew we were late by a couple days, but we still gave it a go.
We hit a couple nice ones yesterday AM and had a couple more that came unbuttoned. We took the boat out as well going 7 for 9 with a lot of rigger rod stand-ups thrown in...and I'll put up a report on that in a bit.

What are B/J's?
Just for test sake, I've been trying shrimp for Atlantics up here with no luck......I had a great feeling it would work but i guess not.

BJ's are just a knock-off of K.O. wobblers, painted all orange, and sold for a dollar in St. Joe. You could just buy your own, and paint them. I'm sure they don't have to be K.O.'s either, but ya never know...
