Thinking of buying one to move through very slow sections ( ie last part of float from Parmalee to Camp Ten bridge). You think 36 lb of thruse is enough? Also, if anyone has one, what length of shaft do you recommend?

My 17ft wood drift boat moves best with a 3hp bow mount Minn Kota mounted on a rear deck and heading backwards ( at least it looks that way, it's actually forwards)
That said, you may find anything form a 42 lb thrust on up will work well going downsream.

Do you think a 36 would be pretty weak for any upstream run in moderate current?

What kind of boat do you have? I have a hyde 16 low pro and in mod current I'd be surprised if you could make much of an upward run at all.
Do you have a friends motor you could borrow and try first?
Anyone know how lbs corrulate (sp) to hp?
I have a 6hp which is about as big as it will handle and that has a hard time in heavy current with my rig.
In the the world of hp....if you want to go upstream in a 16ft boat, I'd think you would need a 4 hp at a min. I am no expert though.
I thought about getting a trolling motor for hot shotting....just to hold me is position. Let us know what you find out.
