Well since this is about the St. Joe Fishing League, I’ll post it this in the cold water forum. If it needs to be move feel free too.

Well I finally have a chance to post up for the St. Joe Fishing League’s Lake Erie Outing. I don’t have the final results yet, they are still in the camper at the farm and I’ll swing by after work and get them.

Well it was a great time on and off the water. The fishing was fantastic, with my crew hauling in our limits Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The after fishing gatherings were as entertaining as the fishing it’s self.

As for the tourney on Saturday, we had some stiff winds Friday night and I did not think that the fish we found on Friday would still be in that area so we headed out to the wind blow shores in front of Stoney Point and work the shallow waters north to the power plant looking for feeding walleye. We found they right were we thought we would but they were in the 17” range and not what we were looking for. We turned the boat and head out for deeper waters and for a 20” in 24 fow and marked that point and never left that area to finish out the day. We were pulling Standard size spoons off the riggers, Hot-N-Tots off 3/0 dipsy set on 1/2 back 60’ and harnesses on 3/0 dipsy set on 3 back 90 to 100’. Pink & Purple was the hot spoon colors, Gold/Black and Perch Tots, Chartreuse and hammered brass harnesses.

I’m not going to say who won the Tournament. I’ll have the results up as soon as I can.

Once again, what an outing. These outing get better and better every year.

Steve

I'll keep this short and sweet...had a great time with great people, combine that with some great fishing and you end up with a GREAT weekend!!

Walleye were plentiful for all and I think everyone had a good time!

I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to next year and contemplating trying to make it over more than once:SHOCKED:

It was nice to meet a few of the eastsiders as well...more of you should try to make it next year.

I hope some pics get posted as there should be a few good ones floating around.

Yes...

It was as close to "catching" as you are going to get as the boats that I crewed on Friday/Saturday/Sunday boated somewheres in the neighborhood of 150 walleye. There was definitely alot of catching & releasing going on!!

Thanks to the Spankster (Friday & Saturday) and Steve Arends (Sunday) for having me aboard on this outing. Those 30 walleye fillets will be mightly tasty over the next couple months. And as Darrin has already said... I am looking forward to next years Lake Erie outing already!!

Now... onto those silver fish where they actually do pull on the drag a little bit!!! And I am not talking about those &#%#^$ *****heads either!! (Darrin... I put that in there for you!! :D )

Thats like hopping the sun will come up tomorrow Darrin...

for instance, here are a few pics of a weary angler after taking his limit on Thursday evening. Those fish really must have put up a fight. Notice the slow but sure effects of gravity. Or maybe it was just the Windsor & gingerale...

Hey Mark, I lied...

All in all I had a great time fishing this weekend. Bud Man Larry aka (Rat City Hooker) joined me for fishing and suds but keeping up with him was a challenge. The man is an animal!!! After a slow start on Fri. things picked up a bit for us. As this was the first time for me fishing for the eyes Larry and I did ok taking a place in the event that wasn't as embarassing as some (eh Mark)? WANNA FISH WITH A REAL FISHERMAN?  Sorry couldn't resist that.

As I said The fishing was great, the weigh in & afters as usual, a good time and I look forward to the next outing & spending time with this bunch again.

There sure was a lot of mayfly's around, eh Mark?!

I do want to say thanks to Steve A and He Chris for the boat seat and trailer bed. It was a pleasure fishing with you guys and we sure put the smack on those eyes! I'm looking forward to tonight's walleye dinner...with a bonus perch fillet!!!

To Danger Dan and Larry RCH, thanks for the ride on saturday night! And Larry, I tried your bottom bouncer technique...IT WORKED on sunday to jig up a nice eye! :D

Oh, and Steve, thanks for my first walleye adventure on Lake Erie TROLLING for walleye! I had only been fishing on Erie once in my life...and that was 3 weeks ago on a charter where we only drifted harnesses.

So here's my pictures...

Friday practice fishing...Steve, I solved the mystery of the extra walleye!!! I think we inadvertently left one in steve's livewell, cuz there's 14 here, and when we went back out friday night to try some different water, we found one left in his livewell. I have to apologize to Mark for false accusations of planting one in steve's boat! :D :

Saturday's winning catch (10 of the 15 were weighed in for the tournament) plus 2 bonus perch. We must have thrown back 3 times this many 15+" walleye. Our biggest here was 3lbs 9oz:

Saturday's partial sheephead take: (note that we didn't catch a SINGLE "baaaahhhhh"-fish)

Steve: "Mark, what's wrong? You getting hot out there in the sun?"
Mark(in the worst slurrr possible): "Nawww, the mayfly's are botherin me!" :dizzy:

I guess the sun must have gotten to him and made him sleepy by 5pm! :hide:

Finally, here's our take for sunday (some of them have already been snatched up to the cleaning table, but there was a limit of 15 eyes here with 3 bonus perch:

That man certainly is a sound sleeper. there was the ole ripp on the reel with the clicker screamin.. no good, then the Eco Blast, first not so loud then LOUD, no good, but the tinsey mayfly finally resurected the guy... the trip to the head pretty comical. I still chuckle on that. You da man Markie....

my buddy and i didn't finish well, but we had a good time. fishing with a little money on the line is fun and something we decided we're definately going to do again.

we ended up with eight fish. we were trying to get a couple bigger fish, but never could. After noon we decided it was time to put the next two in the cooler but we couldn't get a hit.

we would've stuck around longer, but we were tired. YOU GUYS FISH EARLY:lol:

Rick, don't lump us all in together. You should have seen my face at the weigh-in. One minute I got 24 lbs, and change, next minute I have to reweigh, and I lost 2 lbs.!:yikes: Oh well, I had a good feeling for at least 2-3 minutes. Now I have to live this nightmare AGAIN for yet another year!:xzicon_sm
Deffinately an excellent event, and I had an awesome crew. The weekend could not have gone anybetter. Those who attended, especially for more than the weigh-in, a big thanks for comming to play.

We'll be there again next year, trying for the big sheepshead agin. I can't believe all them pesky walleyes kept beating the Drum to the bait!

Well, I guess I should post my report on this event.....

I started out with Larry on Thursday and we boated our 10 and called it quits. Drank beer

Friday I fished with Darrin and we boated our 10 and called it quits. Drank Beer

Friday afternoon we fished with Don P searching water and played the game of catch and release, We allready had our limit from that morning trip, and Drank beer

Saturday, we fished, Darla, Darrin and I boated over 75 Walleye and kept our 15 and just smacked em that day. Speaking of smack, Darrin managed to try to launch my boat and SMACK the side into the pier creating minor 3 foot crease down the middle of the side of the boat......and we drank beer

So, My understanding there was a mayfly hatch around 5pm Sat that I got involved in,,,,Hmmmmmm.....I understand ther are some photos of that hatch floating around......

anyway, the way I look at it, tourney day we boated 10+ walleye per hour runnig 7.5 hours straight. One of my best catch ratios to date........one of my best Mayfly catch ratios todate as well

Darrin will never back my boat up or launch it again....great on a stick,,,,,sucks on the wheel

Nick (Creek-Chub) is the "throttle man". Maybe he should tell that story sometime...at least no lives were at risk when I bumped the dock.

I can't say much about that ding as I did hit the dock, Darla made me feel better after the story of Mark doing about the same two weeks after buying the boat, but mine is bigger (the one time in life I wish I didn't have to say that:lol: ). Spanky and crew...stay off my *** while I'm docking:yikes:

Sorry again Mark. I sure am glad I can run the back of the boat and rig so well or I'd really be up poo-poo creek.

As If Mr. " LOBSTER CRAWS" needs any defense, I will admitt, I " MAY" have been a bit eager in falling behind them at the launch. I could have waited and got into any other spot, but I figured,"these guys knew what they were doin". So I fell in close behind at their ramping dock. I seen Darrin back out and go for the load, but the wind and his unfamiliararity of the boat caused a miniscule amount of error. A little ribbing from my 1st mate Don P( something about The fighting amish and driving the boat) and the deed was done.:yikes: I figured that Darrin was tired of all the "life of Steve Arrend" stories, and wanted to start his own series!. He then continued with plenty more antics at the camp site.

Mark, were are the pics of the " band aid" we put on the craft while you were,"finishing the hatch"!

I finally figured out why I like hanging out with you guys. My life seems so simple and pleasant compaired to what I observe on these outings. Thanks for all the laughs guys. I think the park ranger even got a kick outta you!:D

Ben, next time we get together for a couple beers, I got some stories for ya!

Top ten reasons to attend the Erie event.
10. Fun to see if the west Mich guys can even find their way past Battle Creek.
9. Listen to the radio to see if anyone is crying about "staying away from my leadcore".
8.Check out what a really crowded boat launch looks like!
7.Find out if crawlers are really cheaper "over there"!
6.Wonder how much people will actually pay for firewood!
5.Actually going to find a" Banana Dyke"
4.Making the trip just to see if" the trailer" actually made it!:evilsmile
3.Waiting to see which fishdog guy, can tuck the other fishdog guy into bed.
2.Working hard all day to see who can catch the biggest"crap" fish!:p
and the number one reason to attent the Lake Erie event............................................. ............................
Watchin Spanky get all excited until Steve and crew weigh-in, and then watch him re-hydrate his sorrows away!

Ut oh! Spanky's got some stories for Ben! I'm assuming you're meaning "The Other Ben"...and could it possibly have something to do with a trailer?

 The top ten are excellent Dan! I'm glad I read it BEFORE my boss came in this morning...cuz I was rolling!!!

#8: Check out what a really crowded boat launch looks like!

Yeah, AND see how an organized boat launch handles 100 boats in less than 1 hour!!! I must say, I was amazed at how quickly we got into the boat launch considering we were all the way back into the main channel on Saturday!

Granted, I still felt like I was here in St. Joe cuz there were still the people who decided to ram the landing with their bow...and then get their lower unit hung up on bottom when Mr. "I Know What I'm Doing" keeps the throttle on when his poor old wife is trying to pull the boat over with a net hooked on a rod holder! Then they get sideways in front of us and cannot figure out that in order to pull the back end of the boat over, they need to tie the rope to the REAR instad of the FRONT! :dizzy: Then, Steve being the nice guy he is...jumped out of his boat and into the water to wade and push their boat out of the way so He Chris can back the trailer down to our boat. I think we were driving down the road when they finally got their boat on the trailer! :banghead3 AND THAT WAS AFTER WE CLEANED ALL OUR FISH!!!!

live2fishdjs

I'll have to say Ben, that was funny watching that unfold...made cleaning fish dangerous watching that old man and lady and the "good samaritan w/ wet shorts"

Good post Spanky...all funny stuff-you guys reading this that didn't attend I really encourage it next year.

Stein-just when I may have started to live down the "backing down the ramp tale" I have the docking story that seems to get brought up no less than 30 times around a campfire with these yoyo's.
