I'm kinda surprised we have not seen a few more posts about yesterdays tourney. A lot of the local boys and MS members were in it, yet not a word about what, who or where they were when they won it. Was it canceled or what?

I'm sorry 27 L.B. won it and they had big fish to, 20 L.B was 2nd, 19.7 3rd, 19.1 4rd, 18.8 5th.I can't remember the rest.It was a well run tournament.

I agree it was a very good tourn..Tony and Jared did a fabulous job....We ran 35 miles. it took us 2 hrs to get there.. We ended up in 5th place with 18.9#..Fished this a.m. out of Linwood and pulled a quick limit of eaters in a short time....Tom

My buddy and fellow MS member Living Legend pulled off a top 5 finish in it. He has been catching a lot of big fish in the last week or 10 days or so. He says the big walleyes were previously scattered and are just now beginning to stack up and become patternable.....if you know where to look.

I agree with Tom. Jared and Tony did a great time for their first time running the tournament. They had lost of prizes to pass out to the group and the pay out was very good. I fished it as well, ran 22 miles that day and still can't hardly get out of my chair. Best we could do was 17 in fish. Those darn things can really fight for their size. Some took the board under and got our blood pumping thinking we got ole big eye and get a look at a 16 -17 in fish :(. Great eating yes but not tournament fish. Was on them 2 days before but thats fishing. Thanks to Macks Lures, Jared and Tony will be in next year for sure! Skeeter

great tournament.:) nice ride out though:dizzy: .....not!!! finished 13th, not too bad. i had to do some scrambling though. got to my spot and the fish were gone.:yikes: had to run another 10 miles to get our fish. unfortuantely the fish were smaller than i caught prefishing. oh well, thats the way it goes, sometimes you get em, sometimes you dont. did get one nice one though. it was 29" and when we got to the scale weighed 6.99 lbs. needed a few more like that one, but then again, who doesnt.

once again, nice job, cya next year.;) :D

Holy Makeral. 29 inches 6.99 pounds!!! That fish was either on his death bed or a starvation diet for sure. I hope you took him home Adam, and put him out of his misery. A Saginaw Bay fish that size should have weighed close to 9pounds or a little better with that length. Hmmm....strange.

we are thinking of having it in augres next year, that seems to be where the bigger fish were caught

Dan
I have heard the fish get skinnier as they age but i could be wrong , 29 inches has got to be an old fish :fish: what surprises me is that there were only seven fish weighed that were over 5 pounds a 5.97, 6.4, 6.7, 6.99, 7.38, 8.26, 8.62 .
I think the bigger fish are to lazy to or too slow to compete with all the teener fish which seem to be very aggressive this year, Ive had 18 inch fish rip the board right under and 5 pound fish just barely move the tattle flag

now there's a theory Tony....you might be on to something there. Teeners...haha had me laughing on that one. My My how the size of the fish has changed out there.

Our biggest fish in the tournament was 28 3/4 inches long and it weighted in just over 6 L.B. but under 7 L.b.

Our biggest fish in the tournament was 28 3/4 inches long and it weighted in just over 6 L.B. but under 7 L.b.

For years the Saginaw Bays length to weight factor was 24" = 4 pounds. 25" = 5 pounds and so on up to 30 inches that = 10 pounds. It even progressed like that into the 12 and 13 pound fish, with mature egg laden females being a little heavier of course. These smaller recent fish, along with the big walleye I caught Saturday on the river, has me wondering if the spawn was really late this year. These long skinny fish are more remeniscent of post spawn fish fresh out of the river systems, then the fatter fish we're all used to seeing by this time of year. Another theory might be the nutrition factor of the bait fish they are having to pursue now, versus the fatty-oil filled alewives that are now (for the most part) vacant from the Bay.

i agree dan, i was shell shocked at the scale when he said 6.99 lbs. i sure thought it weighed more than that. when i put her in the boat i figured an easy 7 1/2 lbs. it didnt look that skinny. even at my estimate, a fish that long should have weighed a solid 8-8 1/2+ pounds. i wish i would have got a photo. could the scale have been off? i dont know. if it was, it doesnt really matter because it was fair for everyone.

tony,
i also agree with you. the big fish are real lazy unless they decide to flex their muscles. that 29"er made the tattle flag twitch twice and then ever so slightly slid back. we thought it was a small eye or white bass until we picked up the rod.:16suspect then we knew different. she stayed really deep and kept shaking her head like crazy. man i hate when they do that.:dizzy: next thing i know the USSR submarine is staring at me.:yikes:  dad backed up and i netted the beast. from there we did some serious high fivin' :D if not for that fish, we would have finished much worse im sure. the puzzling part is where my fish moved to from prefish? thats the big bummer. they werent huge, but nice 3-5 lb fish that definetly would have made a differnence. maybe the bad weather just had the big ens shut down. thats fishing.;)

i said it once and ill say it again. great tournament, ill be back next year. i will also say that i like the low number of entries allowed. it makes things allot less hectic around the weigh in and when heading out in the morning. nice job on sending us off. you had a plan and stuck to it. everything worked great. nice job guys.;) :D ...cya on the pond!

thanks again we liked the blast off as well but....we were not sure how it would be accepted since most every other tournament from there is a shot gun start. I don't like those starts never have, it seems dangerous to me, it was bad enough trying to fight the waves without everyone else's wake in the mix.
we are going to keep the entries to 50 boats next time as well it is much more manageable as you say. the only negative was that only 5 or 6 teams walk away with a check.
the other thing we will do is have a trailor with a sound system and a stage. (already in the works) LOL
If you see the red stratos out there give a shout I'll be on 68
Tony

i agree, shotgun starts are dangerous. like you said its bad enough battling the waves, and then compound things with boat wakes...what a mess. to be honest there was enough boat wake from the groups of five or so that were running close together as it was, let alone all fifty boats. i like the format, glad your sticking with it.;) :D i also like the improvements your going to make. sounds like your right on track.

as for the five spot payout, thats no biggy. i think it makes it more competitive. if you really want to win your going to spend the time to find the fish. if you do, you better your chances of cashing a check. it makes you earn your money.;) i also thought the payout was good for the number of entrants. there are other tournaments that dont pay out as well and have nearly three times the entrants. keep the good stuff coming.;) :D

well work is slow tomorrow so unfortunately i have to go fishing.:p  :D the forcast looks awesome. it looks like the waves are going to be one foot or less. i dont know if ill know how to act? im gettting used to the 3+ footers and having to poly grip my teeth back in at the end of the day.:p  just kidding, im looking forward to the nice weather, hopefully the fish will cooperate.

if i cya out there, ill give ya a shout. you should be easy to spot, there arent too many stratos' out there. good luck when ya get out.
