Just moved to Novi from Tecumseh and looking for a pond, lake, stream to take my sprout fishing.
Relatively easy access a plus as he gets cranky walking a mile to get there (even with the piggyback rides I get "are we there yet" every 2 steps:D )

I'm am SO not familiar with the area around here sad to say.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Island Lake Rec area is, also, a good spot. Spring Mill Pond has a lot of small panfish that hit with gusto, plus you might even get one of the trout the plant. Lots of small lakes and Huron River access in the park.

Dodge State Park Cass Lake, but not weekends:dizzy:
Great bank fishing, beach, and concession stand.
You can catch bass and panfish with worm and bobber. Just try all along the banks from the boat launch to the cattails. Good luck. Only about 15-20 minutes from Novi.

Kent Lake inside Kensington Metro Park would be my 1st choice! It's located in Milford (Between Kensington and Milford Road), just West of Novi. There are plenty of shore fishing locations throughout the park, only a few yards from the parking lot. I've caught panfish, bass, pike, carp and walleye from shore there. There are tons of playgrounds nearby as well, just incase the fishing is slow. Evenings are a good time to fish too because you'll have a good chance on seeing some deer! After fishing you can take your son out for an ice cream at the Dairy Queen located at the Milford Road enterance.

All in all, excellent park with some great shore fishing and tons of things to do with the family all year long. There's also a farm center, nature center, hiking trails, two beaches, water slide, golf course, canoe and boat rental, hay rides, hay rides to pumpkin patch in the Fall, ect...

BTW...There is a fee to enter the park: park passes are around $3 for a daily pass or $20 for a seasonal pass. It's well worth it and it gets you into all 10 or so Metroparks.

***Be sure to pickup a FREE Metropark map at the toll booth, it's an EXCELLENT road map to have when traveling in SE Michigan!!!***

Kelly,

There is a place not far from Novi called Camp Dearborn, it's located in Milford. My 5yr old and I were out there last weekend for the kids fishing contest and she won with 67 gills caught in 4 hours. There is a gate fee of $3-4, but there is also other activities there like a beach, putt-putt, a canteen for refreshments etc... Just stop by the camp office and they can help you. The park has 5 dif lakes to fish from but the front lake produces very well as you can see from above. If you go, fish the side of the lake as soon as you enter the park, you can see the gills on the beds. And waxworms are a great bait for them use #10 or #12 hooks under a bobber.

Good Luck
