I'm fishing some real weedy lakes in my Mad River canoe. I'd like to make or buy an inexpensive anchor that won't pick up alot of weeds.

Thanks for any input.

just tie a cinder block to some rope, or use one of those small mushroom anchors

depending on wind......a long eye bolt, a 1 or 3 lb coffee can and some quick-crete works pretty good

Fill up a 1/2 gal milk jug with sand or pea gravel. Smooth sides won't pick up weeds. Muchrooms anchors can be a mess in real weedy areas.

Cheap and easy, works well for small boats. If you've got an empty washer solvent bottle the plastic is much thicker and some are a gallon and a half in size. ;)

Fill a small plastic container, about 1/2 to 1 gallon size, with concrete, and insert an eye bolt into the wet concrete. I think the small drywall mud buckets are a good size to use. Cut off the plastic container after the concrete sets up and you have yourself a cheap, effective canoe anchor. We used this with great results on a 17' canoe and two guys fishing a small lake. It also works for mild current in a small river, but wouldn't try this to anchor in a deep river with fast current.

use the milk jug or plastic bottle with a lid..that way when you get to where you are going you can fill it with sand or gravel or dirt and not carry a 10 lb weight all the time..saves weight and gas? just my 2 cents

I use a 3 pound dumbell to anchor my kayak. It holds well in tha wind and or river current.
