last two trips out I get a vibration, feel it through the floor even, when running WOT and when the motor really loads up - after a wave...

Pulled the cover, everything tight, mounting bolts to transome good, no slop in gear at prop, good oil - nothing real noticable.

Where to start looking mechanically inside the motor:confused:

is the prop bent or have anything on it, or the shaft bend to through it out of Balance? look at what is different from when it was ok..did I hit something in the water with the prop or shaft? good luck

IF THIS IS A I/O! you may have a gimbal bearing going. it's the mean bearing between the outdrive and the motor:eek:

Hard to say.....

It could be as simple as a fouled plug or bad fuel causing the motor to miss at WOT under load (wave) which would cause vibration like symptoms.

Have you checked for spark and compression on each cylinder.

If this IS an I/O unit,... check either your "Gimble Bearing" (as previously recommended ) OR your drive shaft U-Joints.

Gimble bearings have a noticeable "Roar" when they start to give out. U-Joints are just like on your car or truck and will cause a vibration when worn or wearing out.

Gimbals have a zerk-fitting that should be greased on a regular basis. If you bring your I/O UP to the up-most position the zerk is usually on the right side and can be accessed through the opening after it is in the trailering upward position. Another way of testing for a bad Gimbel is if you turn the steering wheel to the left or right a bit the noise and vibration will normally get better or disappear completely

A bad gimbal bearing will also allow the drive to mvoe up and down freely (a little at first, then more as time goes on)... it puts a little play in the drive. Put the drive in a neutral state... even with the boats bottom. Pick up on the cavitation plate... does it move at all? Can you "clunk" it up and down? Some of this can be taken out by tightening the U bolt at the top of the drive (if it's a Merc...). But any play indiates the gimbal is on it's way out. Careful tightening the U-bolt... 10 ft. lbs I believe is max as it's NOT a hardened peice.

Outboard, fresh plugs, gas with seafoam, nothing hit, bent or different. Just picked it up one day after running it the same place for two days. Then the very next outing I noticed it again:confused:

if you get a vibration that is from being out of balance most of the time, but How old are the wires and look at the other wires under the cover..look for a loose one or cracked insulation, burn makes on the insulation as well as look at the flywheel under the cover for damage or something that is on it ...did you change the lower end dope yet..
