Question for you big time boaters (not me!)

This boat has a 40 merc (think it's a '93) oil injected, tiller (?) control.

the reason I put a question mark in there is that for a tiller, the turn radius SUCKS because there's an arm/elbow joint running off the tiller to a horizontal rod.... much like you see on consoles. I'm wondering if it was a conversion at some point?

pics below

1. is this right? normal?!!

2. can I just remove this "restrictive" elbow joint and be in business to turn on a dime?!

let me know your thoughts.

thanks!

I think that the boat looks a lot better in my driveway versus your's!:lol: Bring it over again and we will take her apart.

I think that thing is called a co-pilot, you can take it off, but if I reacll, you will lose your tension on the turning, so if you let go of the handle the motor will flop one way or the other. At least that is how I remember Mine working.
