I am planning on replacing the water pump in my mid 70's 9.9 Evinrude. The service manual tells to "Apply a fine bead of OMC Adhesive "M" to water pump impeller plate and install." Since there is no OMC dealer close to me, I am not sure what Adhesive "M" is and am looking for some help substituting an equivalent. Anyone familiar with it and tell me if it similar to RTV gasket or Permatex or what do you use in this application.

TIA.

Any RTV gasket maker or pure Silicon caulk will work fine. All it has to do is form a barrier against ambient temp water.

Hint: Apply the sealant and just snug the fasteners down - do not fully tighten. Let cure for overnight / 24 hrs as required and then fully tighten. This allows a good seal to form and keeps excess from squishing out into the wrong places.

Thanks for the replies, I will use some RTV when I rebuild it next week.
