I got this one 35mm camera that I just can't seem to get it right with. I had it out for a month over a mineral lick and took the film in this week. The camera indicated 99 detections on it so I figured that the 24 photos would contain many of the local boys and girls. One good shot, thats it! One shot of a doe and the rest were pics of trees. I made sure to clear the path so no blowing ferns or brush would be triggering the camera. It was set faceing NNW so that sun up and sun down didn't become a problem.
I just don't know. Sure glad my other camera is digital. I feel like such a jerk when I elect not to buy the pics, but who wants to spend $7 buck on pics of trees.
The camera faces a mineral lick where animals should be standing, not walking thru. What are other poosible factors that could be causing these missed shots.
Camera faces a standing position,
Nothing that could be blown around is located in front of the camera,
NNW setting,

Make sure you don't have it facing East or West. I have a 35mm also and the sun changes will cause it to fire. Once I turned it toward the south it worked great. If this doesn't work I have heard of guys putting electrical tape on the edges of the sensor to reduce the window. This way the deer should be in front of the camera when it's detected. I have not tried this, only headr about it.

That is a nice buck, Caribouhunter. Hope you got him during season.
David, that is why I waited for a good digital camera. Some seem to think the 35mm are okay, but most agree that the digital is the way to go. The jury is still out on IR trail cams.

Here is the one I shot on the second day of gun season. At first look it appears it's him but if you look close I think the antlers are different. From the same gene pool but not the same deer.

Here is another deer photographed in the same location. I received permission to hunt this area late in the 05 season, actually Oct. So I went there, scouted the land, put up a stand over a nice scrape, and set up the camera. I went back in 7 days to attach a shooting rail to the stand. I checked the camera and there were 7 pictures on it. I couldn't wait so I took it down and got the film developed. Out of 7 pictures 3 were bucks, 2 8 pointers and a button. Also one picture of one giant doe. You can see her in my pictures. Never under estimate the power of an active scrape.
