On our lease this year we will be planting the brassica blend marketed as "Shot Plot" by Evolved Harvest. It is several varieties of rape (50% of the mix; and several varieties of turnips, the other 50%) A neighbor has had two years of experience with it and it's all good. Very good.

So, in one of our rotational plots we are putting in 'Shot Plot'.

Out of simple curiosity the other day I opened a bag and took out a small quantity of seeds to put in my vegetable garden. Even though on our hunting lease we won't be planting until August 1st I thought I'd give it a test-drive first.

Well, I planted it in a 8ft row on Friday, May 26th.......and it began to emerge on Monday, May 29th.

I don't know what that means for it's eventual growth.........but 3-days for emergence! Sure impressed the h*** outta me.

(btw, it looks like early emerging radishes)

fairfax1 - there are people on this site who probably know more than I, but I'd attribute it to the hot, humid weather after plenty of moisture. Our veggie gardens (in the northern lower) did the same thing and I could pretty much mow the grass every other day right now. Things are growing along just great right now - wish the grass would lay off!

I remember reading somewhere that brassica have a quick emergence. Something like the 3 days like you said. I have planted turnips and rape for 6 years now. Something else interesting with them is for 1 to 3 weeks they seem to grow very slowly, then they explode after that. Hot weather really helps also.
