I have a problem I can not chase down. My trailer lights work fine when running during the day. Brakes, right+left signals. But as soon as I hit the headlights low beam or regular I blow a fuse and my dash lights are out and running lights trailer and truck(trailer brakes and signals still work). The funny thing is, I can hook up the harness and the running lights work, but as soon as that trailer hits the ball the fuse is history. I looked into my low beam which was out and bought a new bulb and the low beam still does not work, could that be it, I am lost on this one, any electrictians out there?

you have a short to ground in the trailer wiring in the running lamp circuit.....look real close to the wires in the plug. Also check the wires where they come through a hole in the trailer frame or are tied to it

I had a vehicle a number of years ago that needed a special little box that had to have all the wires run though before they went to the trailer. Every few years I would have to go down to General trailer and get a new one because it would just stop working and things would short out.

If you have a VOM meter you can test between the running lamp circuit and trailer body for the short. Take apart the splices in that circuit to isolate the area of the trailer it's shorted too.

I just replaced the wires on two trailers for friends . both had warn spots and side marker lites did not work .the wire splices cut the wire when they were squeezed together with a little vibration the wire wore through .factory wiring is real cheap stuff. I replaced the wire and soldered all connections and put heat shrink on them also put heat shrink on wire where it goes through the frame you can chase trailer wire problems for ever also on the Dodge truck the factory trailer plug was corroded and replaced
