I am looking to buy a boat used or new old or newer but I dont think I am going to be able to buy it now but when I get my truck paid off I can make monthly payments. I want something with some power but not a gas pig and something with some sturdyness but small enough to pull behind my 1988 S-10 I also want the boat to have a stearing console. any suggestions??? Thanks to all!:coolgleam

dont go to small. Depending on if you want to go to bigger lakes etc.
Somewhat in the same boat. Looking around 16-18 footer. There are a lot of these for sale but look around and be picky. Once you start looking you will realize a good deal when you come across it. Dont buy a boat you are not 100% satisfied with.

There are a lot of boats for sale out there, We seen a bunch up off 13 last week end. Like Westlakedrive stated, be picky, check it out real close, The boat I bought this spring, 17' Monark, I thought I checked everything out, I didn't realize the steering cable was stiff, I had to replace it, a little costly. If you can take the boat for a test drive that would be a big help. Most sellers don't want to mess with that. Take anything that is offered with the boat, even if you don't need it, you can always sell it later. I picked up a nice Planer Board Mast this weekend real cheap because the owner had two of them...$30.00. The boat he sold a day before the guy didn't need it, he had one...good for me.

Good Luck:

You should always make an offer, contingent on sea-trial. If a seller wont let you sea trial the boat with a deposit, walk away... Would you buy a car without driving it???

I have had my 14' Mirro Craft for years with a 25hp tiller on it. Console would be nice but something else to go wrong in my books. With the tiller I don't have to mess with cables and what not. the 25 Merc uses little gas, I guess, I mean when I actually use it I go through very little. I used to tow it with my Escort Wagon but some launches any more are sucky for getting traction on the pull out. When I had my 4cyl jeep it puleld it just fine.

There are a lot of good boats out there, I just prefer the Mirro Crafts, very solid. I also like the tiller, like I said, less to go wrong and pretty straight forward.

I just don't like any boat powered by force brand motors the resale and problems that some people have had make them a poor investment. steve k8vol.

Time will tell, but I just recently bought a boat with an 85hp Force on it. So far, zero issues, and one of the smoothest and quietest running motors I've used. The darn thing sounds like a 4 stroke for crying out loud. With a trol-a-matic plate on it, it trolls down to around 1.0. Have trolled with it up to 2 hrs and no plug fouling, yet.

If you have a Force that is still running good, it will probably run good forever. You'd have known by now if you had a bad one.

You need to decide what kind of fish you want to fish for, and what type of water you are going to fish, and what your budget is. There is no "best of all worlds boat". A boat that is light weight, and easy to launch at 2 track inland lakes is not safe to fish the great lakes on. If you have no intent of going out on big water(great lakes, the bay, etc.. then there are plenty of good tiller or console 14-17' aluminum boats out there. This is the route I would go, then trade truips with someone when you wanna go out on the big water.
