Hit the river this morning at 6am in a two vessel attack, with Ozzgood in my boat and Chamookman gunning solo.

First things first.....the tibb is running a bit fast for what we wanted to do (catch bass), but we managed a few bites. We saw one of those big jugs used to mark stumps, only it was swimming upstream along green island. It was moving quite fast against the current, and I had my MinnKota on 100 just to keep even with it and keep moving for the 200yds we followed it. So what was on the other end? Thinking we may get a look at a big turtle or something we tried to get a handle on it. Now let me tell you the force on the other end of the jug with 1/2 inch rope tied to it, was too much for both me and Chad, both gripping the jug/rope with both hands on the bow, and this thing started pulling the boat upstream! Still do not know what it was, we gave up, monster snapper????? 2 full grown guys and we didn't even budge this thing.

Now the fishing. We managed the grand slam, smallies, catfish, sheeps, a pike, white bass, and even Mr. Walleye made a grand appearance.

Walleye don't hit bass crankbaits right? Wrong. I've been using bass cranks for weeks on my local lake to get eyes in 2fow. I knew I hooked a huge fish but I wasn't quite expecting what came up.

A quick rough measurement showed between 27-28 inches, no scale on board, but she was fat, not a slender summer river eye.

It was an excellent day all around, we caught plenty, and got some sun. Hooters was good, except their crappy dock in saginaw.

Chamook in action.

The Rivers Smallie population is alive and well ! The crankbait I was using is in rough shape, gonna have to replace some hooks :yikes: ! Ah - the coveted Saginaw River Grand Slam, Ozzgood didn't seem to want to take a pic of My 15" Walleye after Scottys PIG  . Thought I was going to fall out of the boat laughing as Scotty and Ozzgood attempted to raise the "creature" on the end of the jug-line:p !!!! Bob

Scotty.

Me and my Dad both cage trapped and lined Turtles for close to 20 years in my youth. Even though they are tough to get to the surface when lined, that is only if and when they can wedge themselves in the stumps or weeds on the bottom. A free swimming turtle (no matter the size) would have came to the surface with medium effort. Also the trapping season don't even open until after they have laid their eggs. So if it was a turtle line, the set was in violation. I'm guessing you may have had something else there. But what I haven't a clue. Maybe a sturgeon. That thing would have come up, or took me down with it, like a Moby Dick harpoon boat if I would have grabbed the line. :tdo12:

I'm also wondering about that late walleye post spawner you caught. She might have been recently washed down from the heavy rains, from some upper regions of one of the rivers. She's still in pretty good shape.

the jug in question has been in the water for quite awhile it was green with algae and had a scum line on it. dunno what it was if we go back and its still in the same spot then ill truly be dumbfounded. this thing was moving and after we let go the jug sunk down a good foot or so below the surface only to resurface..

Saw a square Rotrax jug with about 1/2 inch rope down by the silos by the old GM plant property. Tried pulling on this one but it was snagged tight to something in 25 foot of water. This one was straight down and would not move at all.
