well how'd you make out??
i bumped into dog house at the ramp in the fog, we thought it was about to lift so we headed out, got stuck in some thick soup. he pulled up a steelie off the bat, i sat and washed lures.
after a while i put down a meat rig, first time for me....
then dog house had some problems and called it a day, alittle later i pulled in my half core and pulled off the spoon in change for a black/gold bomber. about 20 min in the rod went down and a fish shot up! small steelie, didn't get a good hookset and lost him.
later on i started checking lines and changing lures and found a small 15" steelie on the meat rig, drug him for a long time, his mouth was all tore up so in the box he went.
later on same happened on a spoon, another 15" steelie.
so word on the water was a mixed bag, slow fishing, lakers, kings, and steelies. no word of pinks saturday.
now, how'd you fair?

Mike,
Shane and I threw everything we could think of an only managed a steelie(2-3#) and a pink. Steelie came on a std. double orange crush Finlander on a SWR off the board, pink came on an experimental spoon. Both were in about 75 FOW in front of the trailer park. Flies and no-see-ems were terrible today. We didn't mark any bait either.
It's pretty bad when you break down and try to drag for lakers and can't even get a rip. We marked quite a few good sized fish in the bottom 10' in 70-75FOW, just couldn't get them to go. Even tried drifting crawlers over them in case they were whitefish, no nibbles on that either.(heard of a catfish caught, had to try it!) On the water at 7 ish, off at 6. Glad we were offshore, wasn't nearly as hot. I don't think I've ever run a board that close to a freighter before.:yikes:

yeah, my fish came around 80ft. about 2 miles south of the harbor. seems like the fish have been high and hitting smaller baits, i spoke to a boat that used some 2- 2 1/2" spoons and did well on a monkey puke slider.
i met a boat named misfortune at the ramp, i guess they had a super close call in the fog with a frieghter, had to hit the gas without pulling lines and ended up with a horrible mess, lost all their long lines but everyone came back safe...that's the important part.
why do the frieghters run so tight in the fog??? one was in 70fow...
lucky for me the fog lifted before they came my way..

The upbound freighters normally run from 55 to 75 FOW. Isn't it ironic, they can see us but can't maneuver, we can turn on a dime but can't see them. I was that close on purpose, just a little TOO close. It pulled the release on fullcore off the board, lucky Shane grabbed and reeled before it could suck it in. I have done well crossing behind freighters in the prop wash. You can see on your graph, the water column is disturbed down to 50'.......Oh yeah, that's when there was bait.
We fished south most of last year and did OK, hust my first trip this season and we went north. We tried from 25FOW to almost 90, most fish marked were 70-75, quite regularly.

Went 3 for 6 on Sunday Morning. Started out putting out the first downrigger in 60 feet of water when the trolling motor quit running. My dad was trying to start it and I had just put a green dolphin back 25 feet when a fish slammed it just sitting still. I set the hook and started to reel it in and then it was gone. Got the motor started and caught the a Laker on a White glow fishcacher with a chartuse peanut. 66 down in 72 feet of water. A 4 pound steelie on blue dolphin leadcore 5 colors back and a 6 pound king on halloween running a firetiger dipsy set at 3 110 back. Lost the other two on the dipsy running halloween and leadcore runnning green dolphin.

We went 4 for 4 on Saturday south of the harbor. 1 Laker, 1 King and 2 Steelies. All fish were in the 4-5 pound range.
Sunday we went for an evening cruise out of Lexington with the family and just threw a couple lines out and went 1 for 2. Boated a nice king on a dipsy.
Monday we went 3 for 4 out of Lexington before we took the boat ride home back to LSC. 3 Lakers of the same rigger on the same lure.
What a great weekend!

He tried the fish chant a couple of times, it just wasn't to be. Sounds like we should have fished south. First trip so I had to go with the usual suspects(trailer park and north). We tried EVERYTHING(2-5-7-10 core) Riggers, dipseys, boards, bodies, flasher/dodgers, spoons (micro-mag). Speed from 1.7 to 3.4. Wish we had brought some meat, even thought of using belly meat from the pink. That's why it's fishing, glad everyone else did well. It was nice to be out again, trolling motor had us jumpy too, it's going to go soon.

I was out Monday with Wish to Fish and caught 4 lakers. All fish came on lead core but one. All fish had smelt and 3-4 inch alewives. The bugs were bad and we came in early.

I too ran by the other DH at the launch Sun on my way by.:D
Never saw them on the water.....lol.... I don't see many other boats on the water when we're out....
They were just rigging for splash at the ramp when I by on my way out...
If I'd have known Mike, I'd have had you go w/ me Monday.
I ended up spending the night, and packed up and took off after the morning run.....

salmonslayer06,
You are hanging with some rough company there boy. Wish to fish and Goosebustr make one heck of a moose sirloin though, I can tell ya that.
I heard the lil' tanker curse rubbed off on the sportcraft and you guys had a little boat trouble.
Don't worry we catch a lot more fish when something goes wrong with the boat and that is almost always.

At least the steelies are eating the abundant shiners in the thumb area. If only the salmon would adapt to the baitfish other than the alewifes...
How you been Harry...Gotta change my profile, I just went on my 1st open water trip 2 days ago, with work taking precedence, I get out maybe 25 times a year now if I'm lucky...I used to get out 75-100 times a year, then it became around 50, and now very infrequently. Enjoy your steelie...;)

With the boat trouble and all......
We were either even or North of the harbor both Sunday & Monday......
Lil' Tanker.... You gave me your Boat (problems) Monkey.... and I want you to take it back..............
