Pulled a limit on the Can. side, spoons. Thanks to the guys who helped me retrieve my boat, went to push it back to get it on the trailer and was left holding a rope with no boat, it was floating back to the wall.

I also went out of St. Jeans from 8 to 11 AM. Had a friend who did not have a Canadian license so we stuck to American side. We fished North tip of Belle Isle down to just above Ren Cen and only caught one 15" walleye jigging rubber worms. We also tried handlining and only caught white perch and a couple of smallmouth. We decided not to try crawler harness because we were catching so many junk fish on spoons we figured it would have been a lot worse with crawlers.

Hey Andy. I buy my Canadian yearly from Lakeside, so I don't know the answer to this. But, say you had a guy that wanted to stop at that tackle shop to grab a Canadian daily, how does it work? Are you allowed to dock your boat there, and walk into the bait shop? I just wasn't sure with the post-911 rules, and the customs and all that jazz. Thanks Andy.:) 'Eater

I havent done it in awhile but this is generally the procedure for clearing customs.

Go into the restaurant, tackle shop..whatever...and the ones frequented by US citizens usually have a phone dedicated to call customs. Only the captian of the boat should leave the boat, all other passengers must remain on the boat until cleared. Have ready your and all others full name and date of birth and the MC numbers of the boat your on. Answer thier questions and they usually give you a customs clearance number thats good for 24 hours. At this point the other people on the boat can disembark and join you. get your license etc..and your good. They may say, wait there we are sending someone..at this point I would stay, cause if you split and EVER tried to get into canada again, there would be trouble. and your suppose to check back in with US customs. thats why some guys get the I-68 or whatever that "pass" is called.

also I have heard that if your fishing with live bait in canada you must have a reciept on board that proves that the bait came from canada. I suspect that this is an invasive species issue but may have to do with economics as well???? ..andy

I was going to ask some of these same questions in a post tonight. Planning on picking up a Canadian yearly tomorrow morning. Would appreciate some good directions to the bait shop across from Belle Isle, where to dock and where it is from that dock? Thank you in advance.

Thanks Andy. I was afraid of the same regulations about pulling into Canada and getting off the boat. I would appreciate the specific directions as well. I believe the cost of the license for US citizens is around $50, though. At least that is around what I paid for mine via mail.
I did not know about the bait thing either. That seems like a strange regulation regarding bait. Does that also mean that if you buy minnows on the American side and use them on the Canadian side of the river, without ever getting off your boat, that you are breaking the law?

MY buddy picked up his daily at riverside marina, which is accross from peach island about half way between the north end and the south end. It is a small bait shop gray building the size of a two car garage that sits right on the sea wall. All aove the procedures posted above were followed. They open early in the morning don't know the exact time.

The canadian seasonal non resident is 69.00, I think dollars. They have a conservation non resident license that lets you keep like half the regular limits, for instance you can fish for musky but can't keep them, for like 27-30.00 dollars. The daily non resident is a full licnese allowing full limits, I am pretty sure, but ask about this.

The tackle shop is almost across from the belle isle coast guard station. Along the canadain side there you will see a long row of cottages, then a small canal/marina and then a large restaruant looking building. the tackle shop is in the small canal marina just upstream from the restuarant looking building. motor in there and you will see a small white building right at the dock. thats the place....fish on!!!!!!!!!!!..andy
