Fished out of Muskegon on 5/22-2/23. Water was 41-45 degrees. Fished from 18ft to 190ft with only one fish hooked in the shallows. Great day to be on the water on Tuesday with the lake laying down flat and the sun but very slow.

Did have one interesting experience from the two days of slooooooow fishing. We had a commercial fishing boat cut one of our planer board lines off when he cut to close to our boat. :yikes: We saw him coming from quite a ways and it looked like no one was paying attention. We blew the horn, waved at him but to no avail and he ran over one of our planer board lines. . . Couldn’t believe it!! He has the whole lake with no one else around and he does this!! We did get him on the radio shortly after the incident and he said he didn’t see the boards. . . I don’t think anyone was at the helm!!

Guess it could have been worse. . .

BrookTrout,

I was out on Tuesday evening, off Mona Lk. and had no luck. Not sure where the fish went, we trolled 60-110fow, I've heard they're getting them in 200+ after the high winds. Too bad about the charter boat.

Good Luck

Had the same thing happen with the whitefish boats there last summer. Up till now I thought maybe they just had autopilot set and were not watching. I almost sent a 10 mm round into the pilothouse when I thought we were going to be hit ! Now, hearing your story, I think they maybe just dont care for us trollers out there, and are screwing with us intentionally.

Those freighters have the right of way every time. I turn away and have had to troll 5+ mph when they were bearing down on us from miles away even though we steered away from the time we saw them.

Brook Trout,
The fishing has slowed a bit this week. Was it the gray little battleship...I have had it run by close also and it always seems as you can see no one driving it or on it for that matter. I always use the bigger boat rule their and just move out of his way. Also StStutz it was a commercial boat not a charter boat as their is a difference. Hopefully the fishing starts picking up this weekend. Good luck Trout if you fish this weekend.
