Can I use a deep cycle trolling battery for my main battery? The one I'm taking out is a 550 CCA sealed marine battery. I have a 115 amp hour deep cycle sealed I can fit into the space. Would it hurt to put in a deep cycle in place of a "regular car type" battery?
thanks,
ben

The crank is much slower. I've used it in an emergency, but I would not want to use it as my main starting battery.
I'm with Jimbos, the two batteries are designed differently, the crank battery is designed for high amperage draw for a limited period of time, the deep cycle battery is designed for a more moderate draw for a longer duration.

Yep, you can, just remember those altenators in the outboards are puny.
My guess, please don't hold me to it, is 6 amp max. Maybe even 3 amp.
Just be safe, if your not going to use the boat for a while, put the battery on a trickle charger.

Thanks for the info guys. My deep cycle batteries turn out to be dual purpose so they'll work just great. I put em both in last night and all looks and acts good.
