1973 merc part help

HELP, I have a 1973 merc 9.8. I need the plastic insert for the steering handle. Does anyone know of a place around here where a guy could get one?:confused:

it is a used marine dealer( Checker Marine) out of La Salle Michigan...he has almost one of everything when I need stuff..good luck..

There's a place here in Grand Rapids you might call if you have no luck over there. It's called Vans and it's on Alpine.

First I remember Van's I used to live in GR thanks. Checker Marine could not help, but they gave me the numbe to Fisher's Marina in Erie Michigan that says they might be able to. They said they would have to sell me the whole tiller assembly though, at this point I am thinking extra parts is good.

I bought a carb for my 9.8hp merc on ebay last year for $40.00...seems like that might be a chance also..just my 2 cents

I think mine is a older model than the one listed. My serial number starts with 373, but the picture looks right other then mine does not have a pin through the shaft and handle. Or does it supposed to have, now that is the question. I will have to go home and look then a phone call tonight or tomorrow and I might be in business thanks
