Hey guys, my buddy has a place on Wallon lake and he hasnt really fished there before. I am heading up tonight and am going to be staying with him for a few days. We will have a boat and I will be supplying the fishing tackle. I told him we would catch some fish. So, in an attempt to not dissapoint him I am asking for help. Has anyone ever fished the lake, and if so, what are the target species and what works well for them. It would be great if you could let me know what general area you have done well in, but you dont have to. If you can get me in the right area I can find the fish. We are interested in catching pike, bass, and walleye if they are there. Also, if anyone knows any good catfish spots on the lake or withing reasonable driving distance please let me know.
Hope someone can help. Send me a PM if you need to.
Thanks in advance.
James

Not sure where your buddies place is ... and my sense of directions get messed up up there:dizzy: I have only fished it in the winter, but on the tip of the NW arm there is an area that narrows down then opens up. This area is fairly shallow (should be warmer) and I do believe they catch bass in there. Being that the lake is so far north ... you might even find some northerns still hanging around in there too.
Again never fished it in the Summer, so I can't be much more help. Maybe Crooked Dave or JJMac will drop a note.

Your best bet will be to target smallies.. quit a few nice ones and a good amount of smaller fish. try the n. east arm along the weed edges and on the flats. the s. east flat around the village will also take some fish in deeper spots. both places hold mixed bag fish and might hook a pike. not allot of pike in the lake but the ones you catch are usually nice.
also a good supply of perch in the lake. many small ones but a fair amount of eaters with a few nice ones..
good luck you should have allot of the lake to yourself , not allot of pressure. also a few nice trout suspended in deeper water..
Im a local , good luck ...
looking for walleye your better off too drive to burt.

Here is a report from sept 13th
Fished in a misty clooudy end of a low pressure system. Got 2 largies 4.3 #'s together. Small swim baits in yellow perch color. Water temps between 66.3 to 68.1
Found very little structer. lot of nice drops, but bare bottomed. Found suspended schools of smallies off all the points from the Bear Cove marina east to the next lake. Just to the right of the big camp on that lake there is the only weed bed we found. Produced 2 nice one's, bout 2 1/2 #'s a piece

If you happen to be on that weed line and get a 5 pounder with half a spinnerbait stuck in his face . Can ya email it back to me. It was the last one I had left liek that before the line snapped at the boat.

JJMac and I made a quick visit one evening to Walloon, and we had a bit of action, but not much to speak of. If you like fishing for smallmouths, you will so sure have fun on this lake. We trolled for a couple hours and landed a small walleye, a couple smallmouths and lost one nice smallie, that broke the surface and threw the bait simultaniously. Here is a pic of JJMac holding a nice rainbow we trolled up just prior to sunset. http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/data/549/Walloon_Rainbow.jpg
Nice lake with steep breaks and lots of baitfish. Good Luck and post a report when you get home. Tight Lines

Nice job guys and Beatiful 'bow.
I need to get up there to take care of some things at the inlaws old farm. Looks like I might have to bring the bow and the boat.;)
What launch is closest to Stolt rd/Camp Dagget area? Think I'm a little too big to attempt to launch at the end of Stolt. I'll probably (if I come up) park the boat on the property on Horton Bay road.
Anyone jig up any Lakers from the depths?

When I was fishing walloon a few weeks ago I noticed they were doing some work on the old Sumner Road launch, they had a bunch of concrete slabs piled up. Very suprising, anyone know what they're doing there? It looks promising.
We also caught a ton of smallies trolling floating raps. Most of them were undersized but there were a few decent ones.

Rich..... They are repairing the launch finally. But it won't be ready till next spring from what the guys told me.
Mr.Ed Go to the Bear Cove marina. Really a nice launch. Costs 8 bucks , but its better than beating the crapola outa your trailer, boat and truck trying to get in that lake.
