I bought a new 18' Lund Alaskan this year with a 50hp 4 stroke on it. While out this weekend pike fishing I checked my trolling speed by gps and it was 3.3 mph. Is this going to be to fast for trolling Lake Erie with Hot-n-Tots. This was the slowest speed I could get the boat down. Thanks for any input on this.

1.8 mph to 2.3 mph is what I use and get walleye's ..I start at 1.8 and if I catch any junk fish as silver bass then I pick up my speed a bit..but normal speed of 2.0 is best I found through out the years for lure movement and catch. Just my 2 cents

We run anywhere from 1.2 to 2.5 for eyes. Normally around 2.2, but this weekend 2.4 seemed to work abit better. Early spring and late fall, 1.5.

drag a small driftsock along each side of the boat...that would probably get you down to around 2mph.

The sweet speed that works for me is 1.8 to 2.0. I have to do nothing special with my 21 foot walkaround to get her that slow (or slower)
If you do not want to invest in a trolling sock or two give a pair of 5 gallon buckets a try. Tie them off of the bow and let them out so they sit midships.

yup, buckets with holes drilled in them are the cheap way out, drift socks cost about $30-40 each but work well. or you can buy a happy troller and go that route.
