Do you just pour the minerals right on the ground?

I got this recipe from someone else on this site. purinas mineral mix and water softner rock salt. I took a short toothed rake and raked down to the bare ground and then mixed in the mineral and salt. I use 1 bag mineral mix to 10lbs of salt.

Great pics! How long did it take them to find it? I start getting pictures within a day of putting the minerals out usually. You can look forward to getting a bunch of great pics in the upcoming months. Nice Job!
What kind of camara are you using?

Munster I put the mineral in an area that seems to be a natural game corridor. I put my digital cuddeback and mineral out at the beginning of april. Ive gotten photos of woodchucks, racoons, turkeys,a pair of gray foxes and of course deer. They found the mineral quickly within a day or two.

halfczech, does rain affect your mineral station at all and how often do you have to freshen the station up? Looks like it is something worth trying out.

I can't answer for halfczech but my mineral lick is similar and it's been my experience that rain just causes the minerals to leach into the dirt and the deer just keep digging up the dirt to get at the minerals. It does not hurt the effectiveness of the lick at all. Before you spread the minerals you need to scrape away any leaves and debris, precisely so the minerals can get into the dirt.

Like munster said you want the mineral in contact with the gound. So rain that mixes it into the soil is what you want. I start my mineral station around april 1st recharge it once around may 1st and thats it.

I went to the feed store the other day to try out this recipe. I wasn't able to find Purina's, so the salesperson tried selling me some off brand goat mineral. I decided to pass on that as well as the P.O.S. rock salt for driveways they tried selling me. I'm very interested in doing this but I can't find the right materials. Where can you buy these specific goods? Is the salt the system saver salt in the yellow fourty pound bag or no? Any help is appreciated.
