Set lines in 80 FOW at 8 AM. 2 for 4 in the first 1 1/2 hours in 90 FOW about 2 miles SW of piers. One 7.5# king, one 11.0# king. Both came on Spin Doctor white with green glo and a white fly with a willow leaf spinner at the head of the fly. Had one other rip on this set up. Dipsy 250' back on 3 setting. Lost small king that hit an all green spoon down 70' off the downrigger. Got tangled in another D/R line on the way up. Went dry for the next 1 1/2, wind started to come up and we headed in at 11:30. Very nice morning out there even if we did not really get into them. Marked very few fish. I run my sliders free at this time of the year and have them about 3' long. What length sliders do most of you run? Lots of Steelheaders out there for a tournement?

Thanks once again for the report. Going out mon. morning so it gives me an idea where to start. Saw there was a tourney Sat. so decided to hold off 'till monday. Run my free sliders 3-4 feet, too.
Did you use the city launch or one to the east you were telling about?

Good thing you headed out at 8am instead of 630am... 150 boats bobbing around the pier heads might cause some problems for a guy just going out to fun fish.:D
As far as the fishing goes, we were out friday, saturday and today and there was some good fishing to be had. North of the pier heads in 160+ foot of water was best for us. Saturday was our best morning (23 fish landed) on the lake boating a mix bag of kings, cohos and steel. Deep cores (12-20 colors), 300ft of copper and riggers 80+ down were the best for kings. The steel and cohos liked slide divers and high riggers and high cores. Natural Born Killer, Hud special, green glow ladderback, black ice, and blue veggie were our best salmon spoons and any orange stinger up high was taking the off species. Today was a bit interesting fishing in the howling 30 knot north winds and the mean chop. The south haven steelheaders put on a nice tourny again this year with some great prizes...
3-5 ft sliders are standard fare. I dont think it really matters so much how long it is as far as getting fish to bite them (some days they want um, some they dont) just make sure it isnt too long as to where it can get tangled, or makes netting fish difficult. I like fixed sliders more than frees, mainly because I like knowing exactly where my bait is.

HuRon, we used the launch east of the city ramp. No wait, no gate and $5 you put in an envelpe and then the box on the west side of the ramp.
Great days for you guys, Gomer. Sounds like non stop action to me. Thanks for the report.
I run my sliders for just for that reason at 3', to keep from keeping tangled. Running them free now because the fish seem pretty well scattered through the water column. Has worked well so far. Later when the fish sort of layer up we always used fixed.
Hoping to get back out Wednesday weather permitting.
