Hi, Anybody Know What Is Up At Ren-cen, Jla. The Coast Gaurd Has Been There Since At Least Wed A.m. And Will Not Let Anyone In Area. I Thought It Was Due To Hillary's Visit But They Were Still There Today

THANKS FOR THE REN CEN FISHING REPORT. THE COAST GAURD WAS THERE SINCE WED A.M. I THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO HILLARY'S VISIT, THERE WAS NO SECURITY FOR HOE DOWN LAST YEAR, FISHING IS USUALLY PRETTY GOOD THERE FOR HOE DOWN.
DID ANYBODY NOTICE THE GUNS MOUNTED ON THOSE DEFENDERS:tdo12: :tdo12: :tdo12:

i saw the coast guard gunners (witch are just the normal patrol boats with B F G's ) up close during superbowl festivities. the crew was docked just west of the ren cen and they were getting some hungry howies, we asked them if we could shoot the gun. they said no.:fish:

They just mounted those guns to the boats this year. I for one think that it's rediculous for the Coast Gaurd to have that kind of artillary mounted to boats in the Detroit River. What are they gonna fill your boat full of holes if you don't stop fast enough for them in international waters? Just my 2 cents.

Don't fret Castmaster, in the event of a terrorist threat to either side of the river on one of the worlds busiest waterways, the US Coast Guard is ready to respond. They have no problem helping out MARCOM, as they know they cannot possibly row fast enough to confront most threats in time.;)

Ahartz, I think that you'll find that all Canadians are just as patriotic as Americans and happy to be where they are. I know you were just kidding. I just wanted to express how proud I am to be Canadian.

Patrols... o.k. Guns... definately not. Nobody needs a bunch of trigger happy kids in uniforms with the authority to use them whenever they see fit. The presence of the boats alone is a good enough deterant.

This might explain the gun boats... I heard there were 2 of the U.S Supreme Court justices in attendance.

Castmaster, I love your post and you sound like a superber fisherman. You should be proud of your country as we are proud of ours. The comment about Trigger happy kids is just you speaking ignorance. Those kids will pull your butt off an ice flow (when no one else can) they will protect the boarders- risking or giving up there lives-- Yes even if some sicko terrorist is assaulting the Queens land from the river..

The bottom line is the world is bigger than your little fishing spot and shoreline. The threat to both countries are real. The Kids are highly trained and the only thing that would make me happier is to see a few Canadian boats with some counter enforcement.

The lake is big. I think you'd be out of range toward Mitchell's bay;)

Castmaster before you type think about it. If you were put in that boat with the big guns would you shoot up America or Canada or do your best protecting the whole area. Would I be safe if you were on that boat. I think so. They are the good guys, give them a break.

O.K., I'll let myself get dragged back in to this. I was out of line calling them trigger happy kids. I know that they are the good guy's. I know that they are all trained well. I have a great respect for the American Coastgaurd and military. I know that they have a duty to their citizens to protect the borders. I just think that machine guns are overkill. If anything I feel less safe with them having those cannons on the bows of their boats. Gun's don't protect people. People protect people.

I asked them during lunch. They told me they were doing some training drills.....they had divers in the water a few days last week. Maybe it is top secrete and that was just a story for the "suits".....or maybe they are just checking out the ladies.
