Just moving to the Detroit area and would like to get any help on where and how to fish for walleyes in Erie and St. Clair. I have an 18ft boat that I can troll boards with and also drift. Can anyone provide pointers and locations to start. I know a lot of people Jig in the river early and troll harnesses as it gets later and then moves to trolling baits in the summer. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

This time of the year I would put in at Sterling State Park and troll with long lines and boards In the Brest Bay area. As the water warms up the fish will move into the deeper water in Ohio near the reefs East of West Sister Island. If I were you I wouldn't go that 12-14 miles from either Sterling or Bolles Harbor in an 18 foot boat. You can also fish the area around Turtle Island down to the Toledo Light if you put in at Maumee or Bolles Harbor. If you are going to fish LSC by trolling you had better start now because the weeds in the shallow waters from 11 mile to Huron Point will be developing soon and they make it almost impossible to keep a clean running line in the water. I give up on the walleyes in the summer and switch to perch. There are resident walleyes in the rivers (Detroit and St. Clair) and you can jig, run bottom bouncers or three ways and take walleye all year. The area from Windmill Point to Hart Plaza, and the Canadian side near Peche Island are good areas. Watch the fishing reports on this site to see where and how guys are getting them. Welcome and good luck.
