Winds from 10 to 20 might keep some of the smaller boats from running to far from port. Let alone stirring up the water and making the vis bad.
I am sure the big boats can still make their Northbound trip, but we are considering a last minute change in plans. How accurate are those wind forcasts usually?

Liltanker,
Try using this wave & wind forecast. I've found it to be pretty darn accurate for 12-24 hours out. Anything after that will change as mother nature changes things but if there's no surprises, it's normally good for 48-72 hours out. Use the window in the upper right hand corner to get a picture of the winds and waves in the future.

Lil tanker, The data on that site is only update in the early am each day something like 4 or 5am and I think it might be update in the afternoon with the afternoon forecast update. Basically what it is, is the weather modeling software that is used to create the text forecasts that you normally see. For those text forecasts, they set criteria for the when to call for 1-3's, or 2-4's. With that site you can see the actual wave hieghts forecasted and wind speeds that are expected by the computer models. By adding a plus or minus of 2 ft to those wave hieght numbers I have a better understanding of what to expect out on the lake.

I just clicked on Marine focast for Sanilac. The waves are going to range from 2-12 ft this weekend according to open water forcast on National Weather Service. Gale warning may be in affect for tomorrow afternoon. http://weather.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/fmtbltn.pl?file=forecasts/marine/great_lakes/lh/lhz460.txt
