This report is more for the DeTour area yet thought it would help.

May 9th report from north country sports
The Salmon are hitting at DeTour!!!! The guys were out this past weekend and boy did they ever get into them. Our Charterboat Captain called me just yesterday and told me that on Sunday, in less than an hour, they had 14 Salmon on and 10 in the boat. They were hitting at 50'down on Blueberry muffins, and any pink, or purple looking lure they had on board. They were picking up both Atlantics and Kings. They also reported the Kings to be between 6-13 lbs. and fat and healthy looking this year. The Atlantics were nice and big and healthy looking also. So, if you want an early start, come on UP. We are hosting a one day Atlantic Salmon derby on Sat. the 10th of June, sponsored by North Country Sports and Riverbend Resort. If you want any more info on it call the store at 906-297-6461 or Riverbend and talk to Gary at 906-297-2400. It promises to be a nice little one day derby complete with tent, food, etc all taking place down by the DeTour Marina. There will be a shotgun start and a closed one time weigh in. Details can be found by calling those two places. Perch are still hitting on Drummond Island, but with the Pike and Walleye opener next Monday, there will be even more to go after. The perch fishing has been just great and we hope the same holds true for the rest. Caribou Lake will also see a lot of boats on it for the opener this year. Walleye fishing is getting better all the time now out there. We are only one hour over the bridge, and if you want a U P fishing/boating experience, we are just that close and its awesome over here. Come and find out for yourselves.

I'll Second what Dasher said about the fishing there. The kings and Atlantics are they are and hungry! We caught 4 kings and 3 Atlantics that were chuck full of smelt, alewives and small minnows. Concentrate your efforts near the lighthouse. There is a sharp dropoff there that holds fish. Watch for the freighters coming into the St. Mary's river. Every time a freighter came in or out the fishing picked up. Good luck!

Bob,

The Freighters Biggggggggg Props turn up the bait fish. When the freighters go through a school of bait fish it stuns them or makes them become disoriented due to the turbulent waters coming from the prop. This makes them easy prey for the salmon.

I just returned and only fished Saturday because of the weather and did very well on northerns in Cedarville Bay. Any color Mepps seemed to be the ticket.
The locals are very optimistic as the Comorands(spelling?) being "taken care of"
Perch were not fished for by myself but one man in our group was getting a few in 15-20 ft of water.
