St. Joe Fishing League Lake Erie June 10th

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have less then a month to go.

This is the Walleye trip to Sterling State Park June 10th. There are many of us going to the park on Thursday the 8th, Staying till Sunday the 11th. Here is a great chance for you east siders to come out and see what the St. Joe Fishing League is all about.

We will do a tournament on the 10th. entry is 25.00, Start no earlier then 5:30 am, quit at 1 PM. Weigh in at 2:30 at the campground and I believe it will be around site # 201. There are several of us that have sites in this area.

Lets keep the rules very simple, weigh your best 2 person Michigan Walleye limit, however can only keep a 3 person limit in the boat. Weight will be to the ounce. No cull, once you box it, you cannot toss it back. You can fish any water, Michigan, Ohio, or Canada, but you must leave from Sterling State Park and have the proper license for the waters that you fish. Michingan rules apply.

payouts for the largest walleye, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and biggest Sheepshead

Everyone is on their own this time for lunch. We will have some adult refreshments at the weigh in.

If your interested in camping at the park, get your reservation soon as this park does fill up on the weekends.

Had a great time with the winning team last year!!
Hope to use some of the knowledge from last year to put in a respectable showing.
I plan on being there Friday night and fishing Saturday. Might take a half day and try the afternoon/evening bite a few days before.

Looking forward to seeing friends from the west again

I will be there...fishing aboard Running Arends. Should I bring a seat cushion?!! :yikes:

I will also be plopping my tent on some dirt somewhere in the campground. :D

After the weigh-in...should we do something similar to Manistee? (a potluck of sorts)

We had alot more boats the last few years, where did all the"eye busters" go?

The way the water temp and weather is playing out. This should be perfect. I would guess the mayflies will just be beginning by then, and the eyes will still be in Mich waters, unlike last year when the heat and water temps sent them to Ohio waters.

I may have 1 spot open on the Genuine Raft II, and would like to take along someone from the sw side so I could have a traveling partner. Thurs night till sunday mid day. Live2fish djs, I was waiting to hear from ya, but if you are on board, good deal.

Don P, will be first mate, so who ever goes needs to watch out. He is a complete animal when he gets east of Lansing!:yikes:

Looking forward to the event. Sidfiscious, Ed B, any other BC steelheaders going?;)

The fish were smoking hot today. Took the family and got our limit in 2-1/2 hours. It was all I could do to keep setting back rods and helping the girls crank in the fish. Hot'n'tots and warts in chrome/blue and chrome/green and chrome and black on the boards. Scorpion spoons on the riggers a couple feet off the bottom in 14-18 feet of water all within 4 miles of Bolles Harbor. Good luck!

Steve will get out an updated listing in the next couple of days.

You can pay at anytime before Saturday morning if you see Mark (Adjusted) or I. You can also pay when you come to the weigh-in on Saturday.

Mark is planning on been at Sterling State Park Thursday morning and I'm heading over with a crew Thursday after work and should be there around 7:00-8:00pm. I have camp site #201 and I think Mark has #202 or #200.

I have gotten my third crewmember,so thanks to those who asked.

Looking forward to seeing the league folks again( I missed the last event), and meeting some of the new folks from the site.

One question to the sponsors of the event, . In other words. I am fishing 3 guys, gonna weigh 10 fish, picking from 15(hopefully), or is it pick from 18 if I go to Ohio. I think I know the answer, as it was last year, just wanted to see it clarified for those who are here for the first time.
Last year it was the best 10 of 15, I think that is fine with me, and I still think by this weekend, most teams will be in Mich waters.

Ed B, you gonna play?;)

I'm going to be fishing Erie this weekend and hope to stop by the weigh in to relax after fishing. Not sure yet if we'll get in the tourney, got to discuss with my crew. My boat is not set up with a live well to keep and sort fish for weight. You need that for a walleye tourney on Erie now with the loads of 15-1/8 inchers. Any suggestions? There is one hell of a year class hitting legal size this year. Here's a fresh report.

We got out fishing tonight and it is still going good. We fished south of Bolles tonight and got our limit in 1-1/2 hrs for two of us 14-18 feet of water. It was a couple mile troll, turn around and head back a ways and done. Gold/black chrome/black and perch hot'n'tots were it about 100 yards back off the planer boards. Talked with a boat that pulled a quick limit in Brest Bay, the fishing is great everywhere. We did have a few mayflys at the docks when we got in. If that cranks up to peak quick, not good. It's really something down there around any gas station with lights at the peak hatch, break out the snow shovels to clean up the bugs. I hope a cool front the next couple days holds the bugs back.

EdB,

There is no culling in this tournament. Once that fish hits your live well (or cooler) you most keep it, no swapping fish.

Last year I had set a size limit on my boat of nothing less than 22". Our first four fish were 18" to 21" and they went back in to swim again. With about 2 hours left in the tourney we were 5 fish short, did some change over and hit a school of fish that were in the 23" to 25" and boxed out with about 1/2 hour to go. Last year was just incredible my crew got a good work out, Right Tom (tgafish) and Jeff (Mistertwister). For every fish we boxed, we through 5 or 6 back and those guys were hustling they're ars off bringing in fish and setting lines while I controlled the boat and bark out orders. It was non-stop for those 2 guys.

This year I have He-Chris and Ben (SalmonSlayer) on board and we’re going to step up to the plate and keep the First Place bragging right.

This week has been the longest week this year!!!!!!!!! I need to get over on the east side of the state. We’ll be leaving here around 4:30pm tomorrow and heading over. See you all over on the sun rise side.

Steve

Let me get this correct. I can throw back all the 16" fish I want as long as they do not go in the livewell or my cooler. Reel them in, measure, declare them unworthy and throw them back into the water, show up at the weigh in with my 10 worthy fish, correct?

Spanky
06-07-2006, 09:08 PM
Yep, that is correct! Steves story is a bit far fetched, I know this cuz he just beat us out by a pound or so, and we only had 1 fish over 25 inches, and only 3-4 over 24, the rest were 18-20. Our fish sat high and dry on the ice for 3 hrs, while his were swimming in the livewell. We were off the water by 10;30 last year. Funny how some guys forget over 12 months!:dizzy: I won't be making that mistake this year Steve, and I won't be able to get up there on thurs night to get drunk and tell you where to fish(like last Year), So you are on your own! We will be up on Fri morning, and fishing for the day, along with saturdays event. I am heading home early on sunday, so I doubt we will splash the boat before we come home. I will be staying in a motel, but will play at the park like usual. Looking forward to seeing the clan again, and filling Steves livewell/battery box with sheepshead!:evilsmile .

All Trash talk aside, The weigh-in should be very close, as was last weeks tourney. Should be limits for everyone, this cooler weather will slow the fishflies a bit!;)

See everyone on friday night, or sat.....:)

Got lines wet at 6 pm and pulled at 8:30. 26 for 33 on the walleye. 3 white bass. 15 1/2 to 19 1/2 inches. Everone at the ramp had limits from 18 to 24 fow in Michigan waters. Some fishfly husks on the water but not many. No hatch tonight. Bring your mosquito repellent for the launch and campsites!!!!!! All the stories are true:fish:
