Just curious. Saw 1 of these lakes while on a detour from work last night. Nice parking area all plowed out. I wonder though, are there any fish in them? Gills, Specks or Perch would keep the kids happy if they are of any size (the fish - not the kids). Thanks:confused:

Where do I find these maps? They don't show up in my "100 Southern Michigan Lakes" book.

I sunk a boat on those of those lakes out there. Lost most of my stuff, had to swim to shore.

The lake on the right side of the road.

Dont know about any except the big one you can see from Dixie, Heron lake. Fished it in the spring for walleye, DNR has stocked a lot of them in there. Didnt catch a one. Did catch several small pike. Guys on shore had 4 or 5 bluegills at any given time. Switched to bass fishing in May. Got at least 10 largies each time. Not a one over 14 inches. Never been on the ice over there. Might be good, might not.

Sounds like a lake that might need to be fished at a different time of day. If the largemouth are around 14 there have to be bigger ones. Might be a night lake with some topwater. Is it a clear lake?

I have also fished Heron lake in the Holly Rec Area, after hearing that the DNR stocked Walleye there. And like Yellowfin, didn't catch a one. Problem was, I had to wait until well after sunup for the park ranger to open the gates. And you have to be out of the park by dark. However, there are enough pan fish and smaller bass to keep the kids occupied. Expect pretty much the same thing on ice. Haven't given up on the 'eyes though. Just have to figure them out. One more thing, it is an electric motor only lake, as is Wildwood lake, the one further back in the park.

I have taken the kids out on this lake many times. Good kid lake!! (Gills) We have good luck right before dark up by Dixie Hwy using topwater baits (torpedoes). Most of the bass are in the 12-14inch class. I also believe this is designated muskie waters. Cannot keep the northerns. If you are in the park try Valley lake. Lots of bass in there also. Seem to be a little bigger in those waters. My brother in law has a bass out of that lake on his wall.:)

Lots of beaver out on Valley Lake. Fun to watch if the fish are not biting.

Can anyone tell me where I can find minnows in the Holly Rec. area? I am taking my Dad fishing to Heron Lake Sunday and I have never been there before. Any information would be appreciated. Thank You.:)

I fished Heron Lk. with a buddy 2 weeks ago. We got some decent gills 100 yds. or so out from the boat launch. 18 fow on wax worms. Same friend took a 7 lb. walleye from that lake at the other end by Dixie Hwy. There is a 40 ft. hole there.
