Wow, the last time I used that ramp they had a closing hour and when that time came they closed the gate and put a lock on it.

I think the fee is $5.00 it depends on the size of your boat, and weekday or weekend. No gates and no guard.

The fee changed this year to $10 from $5. Spoke with the owner and he said he raised the price because alot of us were asking for a gaurd until dark (9pm). Last year the gaurd left at 5pm and there was alot of theft. I personally lost a license plat and a spare tire from my SUV. I don't mind paying the exrtra $5 for the extended gaurd duty so long as he ODES STAY THERE UNTIL pm !!!. Last time I went out I came in at 7:30pm and he was nowhere to be seen.

TIP OF THE DAY : put wing nuts on your trailer plates and take the plate off before you go out. I've lost 2 plates in two years there.

hooker...you must be thinking of the St. Jean, AKA harbor hill boat ramp. In 39 years there has never been a guard or a gate at Alter that I can remember..andy

Andy,

I remember gates and saw horses but you are right, never a guard. The closest thing to a guard was when someone would yell out from the house across the canal when we came in late. Sometimes someone would come over with a key and unlock the box and check license plates against the envelopes.

Hye alex..that was the crazy old lady that owned the place across the canal that was a small bait shop for awhile. She would always come out and yell at us becuase we launched a slightly larger boat than the norm and she would yell ...that boat costs more...yea yea we see the chart....This was the early to mid 1970's..andy

No closing time or gates. I think it 5 or 7 bucks.

They old bait shop next door to the ramp has a few old guys that keep a good eye on the lot and the trailer park along that caused some problems are gone. The ramp/dock is still marginal and the canals real shallow.
