Got out of work early, so decided to squeeze in a PM solo trip. Cleared pierheads mid afternoon, fog was pretty bad but decided to try it despite very poor visibility. Ended up with 3 Kings. 10, 9, & 5# respectively. Ran (slowly) out to 80 & set up. First came while setting lines, 35 down on rigger blue dolphin. Went out to 100, water was cooler at 48 deg.'s there & nothing. Decided to work shallower, started marking a few in the 45-47' range. Water temp. was 53. Got last 2 there on same blue dolphin 35 down. Was glad to pack up because visibility was zero at that point. Spooky:yikes: .
Memorable trip. Had a couple (also from Battle Creek whom I never met before) help me out while I was having trouble with the automated toll gate. Couldn't get it to take my dollar bills (imagine that!) so they graciously dug up enough loose change to get me in!!!!! Then while trolling in the dense fog I notice a small bird (finch) circling the boat. He lands in my landing net (pun) & hangs around for a half hour or so resting & eating a few bugs, then flys off! Hope he made it back to shore alright.
