DNR Closes South Manistique Lake State Forest Campground
Beech Bark Infestation to be Addressed
The Department of Natural Resources today announced that the South Manistique Lake State Forest Campground will be temporarily closed so the department can address the severe infestation of beech bark disease and the hazards caused from dead and dying trees.
The campground is located in Mackinac County, six miles southwest of Curtis via Curtis Road and Long Point Road.
The DNR is working to resolve the problem by removing the dead and damaged beech trees. Temporary closure of the campground will be effective immediately and the campground will remain closed until the hazard trees are cut and removed, DNR officials said.
Questions concerning the closure of the state forest campground should be directed to Pat Hallfrisch at 906-635-5281. Information about other camping opportunities in Mackinac County can be found on the DNR's Web site at www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails, or by calling the DNR Naubinway Field Office at 906-477-6048.
The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources for current and future generations.
