Fishing Report for the weekend of May 6 & 7

Well I hit the water Saturday morning with a friend and main goal was to target trout. We trolled from 80 ft. to 130 ft. We end the day 9 for 16 with 4 Lakers, 5 Kings. All but (1) laker was returned back into the water to be caught another day. They ranged from 25 to 30in. The kings were in that 8 to 10lb range with (1) going 12lbs.

Sunday the wife forced me to fish in the morning. Her sister was in town and wife made plans for me to take her brother-in-law and his dad out fishing. We head out to 100 ft and I set up a king program in hope to get them onto some fish. We trolled out to 150 ft. flipped it and went back in to 100 ft. and called it a day. We end up 9 for 11 with 1 laker and 8 kings. We had (1) king that was 6lbs the rest were 11+lbs with the biggest at 15lbs. We hit (1) double and (1) triple. We heard on the radio that someone box a 20lb king in 138 ft.

Sorry for the vague report but because of an up coming tournament this Friday and Saturday out of St. Joe, I don’t want to give out to much detail.

For those of you that are fishing the Summer Challenge, I’ll looking forward to meeting you. If you see us at the captain’s meeting or at the weigh-in just stop and say high.

Steve

....Also out of St. Joe.....

Hit the water Saturday morning with my friend Capt. Ed and his daughter. We ended up a perfect 11 for 11 on the day with 9 kings and 2 lake trout. Kings ranged from the "shaker" size up to 12 lbs.... with both lake trout 5-7 lbs.

Sunday morning fished with my friend Mark and his buddy Perry. Fish did not "stick" as well as they did on Saturday as we ended up 11 for 22 with 9 kings and 2 coho. The nice part was that the size of the fish were quite a bit bigger. 2 kings @ 15 lbs each.... 3 kings @ 12-13 each... 2 kings @ 10 lbs. each... and 2 "baby" kings about 2 lbs. each.

Not a bad 2 days of fishing going 22 for 33 overall!!!

And like Steve... sorry for the vague report because I will be joining my cousin on his 34 ft. Sea Ray for the 2 day Summer Challenge on Friday and Saturday.

If we can get some fairly stable weather this week... there will be LOTS & LOTS of fish brought to the weigh-in on both days!!

Nice job Steve... I will probably see you around down there over the 2 days.

Good Luck to everyone who fishes this event!!

I put my 26 foot carver in at the Benton Harbor launch with no problems. My boats only 5400 lbs. dry weight though, but I would say we had 80 gal. of fuel, 30 gal. of fresh water, and most of the gear. We got it to float no problem but I talked so some others in my marina that said they couldn't put in there; although they were like 28 foot 11,000 lbs.

If you do launch there lock your doors and don't leave anything in the truck!

Good luck!
