Well just got back from 4 days on the Au Sable, my fiance' and I were married over the weekend. Probably my last steelhead foray of the season. Fish are getting very scarce, and pressure is still quite high. We caught some fish, two drop-backs, one that was just about a DB, one plump one, and a few bucks. Spawn and waxies caught the majority, and most under a bob. I did land a nice-size buck on a spoon ran around gravel, and one on a bobbered crawler. So for the most part, the run is winding down, and the few new fish are getting it done quickly, shoot and scoot style. The river is low and temp is in the 50's. So I'm probably done till skam's are in, but knowing me, I'll probably go snooping in the next couple weeks, you never know on this river. I'm getting a new computer, and when that's all set, I'll TRY and post pics, as we got a new digital camera(finally), so I'll try and figure out that, tight-lines.

Now you joined the rest of us, that used to hunt and fish whenever we wanted. Now you will learn to ask permission.

My wife fished with me up until the kids were born and then lost interest...I'll get her back on the river yet...I keep trying!
Glad you got a couple fish, it may be longer than you think before you get back;)

Thanks guys, and the "permission" effect was already kinda in effect, just comes with the territory:D ;) ! And boots, we probably were fishing near each other, we hit some fish off the point on spawn on Monday evening, but by Tuesday, the crowds got alittle too thick, and the fact alot of guys were wading RIGHT on the gravel. Them bucks were quite chasey, wish I had more than ONE streamer, I actually think a rapala would have done well. Those yoopers were very cool guys, very nice and very courteous, glad to see them get into some fish everyday. We had fun giving some boat "pros" some *****, as they pulled right up on their fish:rolleyes: . I was alittle short on patience, mostly because the planters were making it IMPOSSIBLE to run bags, so we couldn't do the fishing I was hoping, but we still had fun!

Yeah, shortly after you and your bride left the boat boys hooked and lost one in the run they were on top of, then they left, but not without a few parting words for the rest of us....Larry the yooper told us, you assisted with letting those "gentelman" know they were out of line....nice job !..:D

Congrats on getting hitched!
A nice development about the camera as well, we will be looking forward to your reports with pics! Digitals are nice, you will wonder why you didn't get one sooner!

Yeah those idiots in that boat spooked those fish for them guys. I wanted to bobber that deeper riffle behind the fish, I take steelhead there in the fall, it's always good for one fish, but the plants were too much. I'm really glad we have the digital, and can't wait to post pics with my reports, that's gonna be cool! Anyways, how did the fishing end up being after we left boots? I seen one chrome hen landed and that is all while we were there. We ended up going 3-3 elsewhere later in the day.

Nothing, we stayed another 3-4 hours, and did not see a fish landed, saw a few more moving up, but not hitting anything..

Jon,
Well done, u da man on tying the knot. We'll all be taking notes to see if your fish catching rate is affected or not. Hope to bring my wife out to join you on the north pier this fall, if so we'll be looking for you two. Congrats to you and the Mrs.!

Congrats on getting hitched. The 18 years I have been married have been the happiest 35 years of my life, LOL. Seriously though, congrats. Train her right to start with, and you will be able to fish when you need to. Hope you have all the equipment you need, though - you might have to choose between buying gas to go fishing, or buying tackle and waiting til you can afford the gas anymore.

Thanks guys. Hemish, she's been on the north wall once, last August for salmon, and it's been hard getting her on there again:D ! And so far, she's on her way to being a little fisherwoman. She caught her first chin in August on the north pier in Manistee last year, and 3 steelhead last fall at Foote, all on her own. She really likes fishing, and for the most part is very willing and eager to go, but she does get quite frustrated pretty quick, especially if she loses fish. But I couldn't find a better woman, I mean, she even goes winter steelheading, and will get up early to go, so no complaints here;):D !
