:yeahthat: ....I started using braided lines and can't go back to using mono, although I prefer powerpro or sufix braid over fireline...

Spiderwire.

Just my preference, but it'd take one heck of a salesman to get me to go any other route.

My favorite mono line is Tectan. Only place I've found it is cabelas. It's strong and thin.

I use mostly spinning gear , and I'm not real fond of the "castability" of superbraid (Now vertical jiggin's DIFFERENT!). Was strictly a Stren guy for years (only B/C they make Hi-Vis Fl. Yellow line) but recently got hooked on Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Really abrasion-resistant and fairly low stretch , not compared to braid - but better than twangy old mono. When I know that I'll have repeated exposure to 'gator bites - I just tie on a short leader of #20 SpiderWire and call it good. Braid sure has it's place but the 'invisibility' of flouro and it's properties work for a lot of the ways I fish and the braid will eat up rod guides faster than other types will also. I still use Golden Stren for panfish and occasionally jigging/live bait rigs ...........We sure have a lot of great choices nowadays.

I use 10 # Ande for trolling, and fire line for bottom bouncing, jigging, pitching spoons and casting live bait in the weeds, if casting live bait in open water I use Ande mono.

Don't matter what ya use if ya don't catch any fish.

Started using P line this year but haven't caught any eyes on it. Several pike but no eyes. Jury is still out. Casts excellent on my ugly stick lite with shimano reel though.

SFW1960 you sure have some ugly pictures flipping around in your post. Except for that handsome brute in the light colored shirt holding that monster walleye.

I use P line almost exclusively and a little Power Pro around hardcore structure. I love both.

I used to swear by P-Line, actually I still do, but I recently "had to" use some Yo-Zuri Hybrid at a tourny and found it to be just as castable, sensitive and strong as P-Line. I think I'll still keep the P-Line on some of the spinning tackle but I'll load up another couple of reels with the Yo-Zuri. Now on baitcasters it's Power Pro only, no substitutes.

I love Spiderwire for extreme cover (lily pads, grassmats, etc) on a baitcast reel. I really like Fireline on a spinning reel, for finesse-type plastics and for trolling: the FUSED superlines handle better on spinning reels, than do the braids, IMHO.
I have used Berkley Sensation line on both spinning and baitcast reels for surface baits and other open water applications for years. This year, I am experimenting with flouro. Started out with Berkley Vanish, but it seems too stiff. May go to Yozuri hybred.

Gamma Technologies. Strongest line out there. Test it yourself.

And I kinda like the guy in the Michigan Jacket holding that nice big eye in SFW's signature!

Don't break your hooksetting wrists patting yourselves on the helmet!!
LOL!

I should send my Wife over to ruFF you cronies up....
:evilsmile

Hammerin' Hank - that's good to hear a head-to head comparison on those two lines as wally-eye were curious how they compared.... I know the yo-zuri will take a pretty good sandpaper rub before it gets substantially weaker!
:yikes:

i swear i've tried a ton of them, and i've got it down to just a few lines, which most have been mentioned, it all really depends on what type of fish you are going for and what style and riggs you are fishing with, for instance when i fish the st.clair river down in marysville off the wall i use 14# fire line, it works great in the rivers and with jigheads if you get a snag most of the time you can pull the hook straight and not loose your setup.
as for baitcasting for my bass, and pike i use yoz hybrid 10#, it casts smooth, is very durible.
and for my salmon and trout esp. i use p-line flo carb it's the bomb.
i've been trying a few of the rapala lines for the wallys and it's been working out good so far for last year and this year, the stuff works great on spinning gear, i gets the fish no matter what the water clearity is, and it takes a good beating. the rapala line cast far and smooth on my shimino reals, jigs well,, and has a lot of stretch to it, which is good and bad, depends on the situation,, anyways thats my two cents on it buy'em and try'em all. it all boils down to the fisherman not the line.

I recently bought 8# Fireline and loved the castability of it... at first. Now I have a spool of knots. I'm switching to P-line for casting. I might keep the Fire line for jigging though.

I use spiderwire on all my set-ups....i use spiderwire braided (30lb) to throw topwaters through really thick slop. 17lb spiderwire super mono for my pitching rod. 8lb spiderwire mono on my crankbait rod and 10lb on my spinninerbait setup

When it comes to braids there is only one for me and that is Power Pro. Also Frieline isn't a braid it is a fused line. The pieces of Dyenema are melted together there is no braid to it. I have used every line out there (except Suffix braid, Gamma Carbon) that is part of my job. My go to line is Xl, but I have been using some of the New Gamma line and so far I like it. It cast very well lower amount of stretch then Stren. But still has just the right amount. Just has strong if not stronger then Xl. Now I'm still testing it but right now it looks like it may be one hell of line guys. Now Suffix I have not been happy with it. It seems to have too much memory to it. I have spools of Gamma Carbon and Suffix Braid on my desk right now. The Braid I will be trying on some catfish in about a month or so from now and not sure when I’m going to try Gamma Carbon may make some harness out of it soon and give it a try that way. Later

Most my fishing is on Saginaw Bay, so that is why these lines get the nod;

Trolling - 20lb Fireline with a 10lb Vanish leader.

Jigging - same, may go down to an 8lb Vanish leader.

Spinning gear - Walleyes/Cats - 12lb Stren B/C with a 8lb Vanish leader.

Spinning gear - Perch (light duty) - 6lb P-Line.

and that's the rest of the story. :D :fish2: Really boils down to what works on your gear for your style of fishing, what you feel confident with. Lots of choices, lots of trial and error, lots of thrown away $$ figuring out what I like !

i like stren on spinning reels. For me it doesnt seem to twist as much as other lines, its strong, and its cheap.

I use plain ol' Berkly Trilene on all of my rods. 4lb on my ultra-light and light rods, 8lb on my medium.

When I run out of it maybe I'll try one of the "super lines"

Powerpro and Trilene. Vanish for leader material. Drop the fireline and go with PowerPro if you do any amount of serious casting.

I use the cheapest mono available at Cabela's or whichever tackle shop I find myself. I use up too much of it casting into trees, getting hung up on rocks or weeds, to use anything but the cheapest.

{anfishing and bassing, I use 4lb mono on a 5 foot light spinning rod.

Walleye jigging or bottom bouncing, I use 8lb mono on 7 foot medium spinning rods.

Salmon/muskie trolling, I use 25lb mono on 8.5 or 10 foot trolling rods.

In all my fishing, I haven't lost a fish for the definitive reason that I chose cheap line. The reasons I lose fish are loose knots, sleeping on the hookset, pike teeth, bottom snags and casting into trees. ;)

I use 10 Lb Fireline for my spinning rigs and 14 Lb Trilene for my trolling needs for Erie, that is all a guy needs!
