Hi Guy's

I am looking for some advice on the above. I have a boat with only a 25HP motor on it. What would you suggest is the best way to fish for walleye on the detroit river?

I have heard that to drift and jig you must ensure that your line is vertical all the time. Without a trolling motor it seems that this would be hard to do with the 25HP and a little bit obnoxious. Would I get good results just trolling upstream with some down riggers with rapala type lures or should I loose the downriggers.

I really do not have any experience and would appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks
Simon

i took my boat out last week on its maiden voyage on the detroit river. i have a 15 horse kicker that worked pretty good. i was very pleased with the results. once the winds died down, i actually was able to kick it into neutral a few times and free drift. i was a bit concerned that the noise from the kicker may spook fish but we caught a four man limit in about 3 hrs. worth giving it a shot

Check out this thread about "Whipping" on the river. There's also a link with detailed info. The author actually wonders why noone whips on the Detroit River.

I began jigging the Detroit River in the mid 80's with a sixteen foot Mirrocraft and 40 horse Mercury. I backtrolled with the 40 horse and was able get great control. Sometimes I wish that I still had that rig. The 25 horse should be fine.
